"The Ones" #1

– In celebration of the release of the TPB for “The Ones” by Brian Michael Bendis and Jacob Edgar, Dark Horse have announced a contest where fans can submit a picture or art to show off their “super power” in ordinary day life as part of The Ones. Contestants have until September 8, 2023 to enter their submissions. One grand prize winner and two runners-up will be randomly drawn from eligible entries. The winners will be notified by September 11, 2023. The grand prize features “The Ones,” as well as up to five additional Jinx World books, while the runners-up will each receive a copy of “The Ones.” The comic follows a group of people from every mythology dubbed ‘The One,’ and must team-up to defeat the actual One. “The Ones” TPB is available now.

– Mad Cave Studios have announced their 2023 talent search winners. The winners include journalist Sarah Cooke in the writer category, Leo Chiola for artist, Maksim Strelkov for colorist, and Adel E. Talemi for letterer. They will all have their work published in upcoming projects for Mad Cave Studios.

– Via Anime News Network, Kodansha USA have announced they will digitally publish in English “Cells at Work! Lady,” from Shigemitsu Harada, Akari Otokawa, and Akane Shimizu. The manga, a spin-off of “Cells at Work,” follows cells Macrophage, Killer T, Helper T, and White Blood Cell as they keep their host ticking. Kodansha have also announced the English release of “Drops of God: Mariage” by Tadashi Agi and Shū Okimoto. A continuation of the manga that inspired the Apple TV+ show, it follows a young man who must identify a wine known as “the Drops of God” in order to inherit his father’s fortune. “Cells at Work! Lady” will be released on September 12, 2023, and “Drops of God: Mariage” will be available on September 26, 2023.

– Hakusensha have announced a new manga from “Fruits Basket” manga creator Natsuki Takaya, entitled “Kakumo Chiisaki Sekai ni te (In such a small world).” The manga follows 23-year old Sui Onodera, who meets Kaoru Seto after Seto’s dog winds up on Sui’s balcony. Kaoru then integrates himself into Sui’s life through the meeting. “Kakumo Chiisaki Sekai ni te (In such a small world)” is now available on the Japanese-language site and app Manga Park.

– Via Popverse, Paramount+ has made the entire third season of Star Trek: Lower Decks available for free on YouTube. All ten episodes of season three will be available on YouTube until September 30, 2023. Lower Decks season four will premiere in the meantime on Thursday, September 7.

– Disney have released a new animated How Not to Draw short featuring Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. The drawing tutorial parody features Moon Girl trying to figure out what kind of villain to fight, only to unleash one of her greatest enemies. Moon Girl must defeat the rampaging villain before it escapes the page. You can watch the short here.

– Finally, Fox19 Now reports that Alice Oseman’s “Heartstopper” has once again been deemed offensive. The book was being sold at a middle school book fair in Ohio in August, until concerned parents wrote to the Little Miami School Board members “asking them to cease all scheduled Scholastic Book Fairs in the district until an independent team can determine that the books made available to students are age-appropriate, and in accordance with Little Miami values and policies.”

The board responded by saying, “The book is not on our school library shelves, required reading for our students, or part of our curriculum,” and that there were processes in effect to deal with issues such as this. Meanwhile, representatives of the Human Rights Campaign’s Greater Cincinnati Chapter said, “The dangerous practice of banning books is not new and has always been used by those who want to stunt progress, sow fear and division, and hide important truths.”
