In case you missed it, Marvel announced the series “King Conan,” and DC debuted their new webcomic “Batman: Wayne Family Adventures” as part of their partnership with the platform Webtoon.

– The hip hop group Cypress Hill has announced the original graphic novel “Cypress Hill: Tres Equis” from Z2. Via CBR, the book will commemorate the 30th anniversary of their self-titled first album, sharing a name with a track from that debut. The book follows classic characters from the group’s lyrics as they endure encounters with both sides of the law. A host of creators are on hand for the book, including Noah Callahan-Bever, Gabriel Alvarez, Felix Ruiz, Jefte Palo, Juan Gedeon, Damion Scott, Angel Hernandez and Paris Alleyne, with a cover by Ramon Villalobos. CBR has a preview of the short story ‘I Could Just Kill a Man,’ based on the group’s debut single. “Cypress Hill: Tres Equis” is on sale now and is expected to ship later this month.

– Danny Lore and Dylan Burnett are enlisting Blade for Marvel’s ‘Death of Doctor Strange’ event. Via CBR, the one-shot “Death of Doctor Strange: Blade” #1 finds Dracula and his vampires dancing on the Sorcerer Supreme’s grave. When a threat from another dimension invades vampire territory, Blade has to decide whether to do his duty as sheriff and protect the vampires, or team up with the mysterious threat to wipe them out. “Marvel Horror is an essential, formative part of my life as a comic fan and creator, so being able to write about Dracula and the coolest Daywalker ever is an honor!” Lore said. “Death of Doctor Strange: Blade” #1 goes on sale in December.

– A three-hour presentation for Star Trek Day aired last night on Paramount+, bringing with it news for several of the channel’s entries in the franchise. Via Variety, the presentation included the first full trailer for season 2 of Star Trek: Picard, which confirmed that the season will be travelling back in time to the 21st century. Also part of the programming was a cast video announcing Celia Rose Gooding (Cadet Nyota Uhura), Jess Bush (Nurse Christine Chapel), and Babs Olusanmokun (Dr. M’Benga) will be joining Anson Mount (Capt. Pike), Ethan Peck (Spock) and Rebecca Romijn (Number One) on the USS Enterprise in Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The program also featured the first full trailer for Star Trek: Prodigy, a program aimed at younger viewers featuring Star Trek: Voyager star Kate Mulgrew, which will premiere on October 28. Discovery season 4 premieres November 18, and Picard season 2 will follow in February 2022.

– Warner Bros. Animation has dropped a new trailer for the upcoming DC Animated Movie Injustice. The film is an adaptation of both the video game Injustice: Gods Among us and the game’s comic book prequel series “Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year One” by Tom Taylor, Jheremy Raapack and Mike S. Miller among others. The trailer offers a first look at the film’s central conflict, which finds Superman (Justin Hartley) going on a rampage after a deadly scheme by the Joker (Kevin Pollak) & Harley Quinn (Gillian Jacobs), dividing the Justice League and forcing them to choose between Superman and Batman (Anson Mount). Also starring Janet Varney as Wonder Woman, Brandon Michael Hall as Cyborg, Anika Noni Rose as Catwoman, Reid Scott as Green Arrow, and Laura Baily as Lois Lane, Injustice is set for a Blu-ray and digital release on October 19.

– Disney+ revealed a new teaser poster and a release date for the upcoming series Just Beyond, adapted from R.L. Stine’s middle-grade horror graphic novel series of the same name. The anthology series will feature a number of stars across its eight episodes, including Mckenna Grace, Nasim Pedrad, Tim Heidecker, Riki Lindhome, Henry Thomas, Malcolm Barrett, and Lexi Underwood. The show was created by Seth Grahame-Smith, and premieres on the streaming channel just in time for Halloween on October 13, and ahead of the new volume “Just Beyond: Monstrosity” from BOOM! Studios on October 20.

– DC announced Batman: The Audio Adventures podcast will premiere on HBO Max on Saturday, September 18, aka Batman Day. The podcast, which stars Jeffrey Wright as Batman, Rosario Dawson as Catwoman, John Leguizamo as the Riddler, and many more, was described as drawing “inspiration from the vintage noir atmosphere of the celebrated Batman: The Animated Series, the spirited fun of the classic 1960s Batman TV series, and the entire 80-plus year history of Batman.”

– British astronaut Tim Peake is becoming a comic book superhero to help encourage children to become interested in STEM. Via ITV, Peake, the first British astronaut to walk in space, will take on the identity of Orbital in the new comic book “STEM Squad,” highlighting the achievements of prominent people working in science. He joins coding entrepreneur June Angelides (Algorithm), engineer Shrouk El-Attar (Bright Spark), and bionics educator and double amputee James Young (Bio Metal) on the fictional team, who will be brought to life by comics creators Andy Lanning and Ant Williams. The comic was the brainchild of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

– In another science/comic books collaboration, the University of Kentucky Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) has created a comic book to fight misinformation around e-cigarettes. The comic is based on the research of Melinda Ickes, Ph.D., associate professor and director of graduate studies in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Promotion in the College of Education, as well as faculty associate and co-director of the Tobacco Policy Research Program of the College of Nursing BREATHE (Bridging Research Efforts and Advocacy Toward Healthy Environments) project. Her research focuses on the risk factors that initiate use of e-cigarettes among young people, and aims to combat misinformation about the use of the product. Artist Bryan Sanders illustrated the project, which is being presented this weekend at Lexington Comic and Toy Con.

– Bruce Willis and Michael Rooker will star in the film Corrective Measures, based on the graphic novel of the same name by Grant Chastain and Fran and Jay Moyano from Arcana Comics. Via Yahoo, the film will be produced for the free streaming service Tubi. The story is set in San Tiburon, a maximum-security prison for the world’s most dangerous super-criminals. Willis’s villainous character The Lobe clashes with prison warden Devlin (Rooker), but then the prison is thrown into chaos upon the arrival of a murderous vigilante named Payback. The film will be written and directed by Sean Patrick O’Reilly and also stars Dan Payne, Brennan Mejia, Tom Cavanagh, Kat Ruston, Kevin Zegers and Hayley Sales. Corrective Measures is scheduled for a spring 2022 debut on Tubi.

– Finally, the cast and crew of Riverdale have rallied in support of series creator and Archie Comics Chief Creative Officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa following the news that his father has been sentenced for treason and conspiracy in Nicaragua. Via Deadline, the group released a video recorded on the show’s set featured stars K.J. Apa, Cole Sprouse, Lili Reinhart, and more telling the story of Francisco Aguirre-Sacasa, whose outspoken criticism of the Nicaraguan government preceded his arrest and incarceration. The cast asked fans of the show to share their video and tag #FreeFrancisco and #SOSNicaragua in support of Francisco and other political prisoners of the regime.
