– “Letter 44” creators Charles Soule and Alberto Jimenez Alburquerque are reteaming for “The Bloody Dozen,” a space horror thriller, starting at Image on December 13. Colored by Rachelle Rosenberg, and lettered by Crank!, the six-part comic follows three astronauts, “who accept a very unusual mission: breaking a group of vampires out of a prison orbiting the Sun.” It marks the second of seven planned series in Soule’s ‘Shrouded College’ universe, following 2022’s “Hell to Pay” (created with artist Will Sliney.) Sliney will provide cover art for “The Bloody Dozen,” and is also working on another, currently undisclosed ‘Shrouded College’ series.

– Chris Claremont will mark Wolverine’s 50th anniversary with “Wolverine: Madripoor Knights,” a five-issue sequel to Claremont and Jim Lee’s 1990 classic “Uncanny X-Men” #268. Edgar Salazar (“X-23: Deadly Regenesis”) will pencil the comic, which will follow Logan, Black Widow, and Captain America during a mission to Madripoor, where they must find a “planet-threatening” weapon before various villains — including the Hand — do. Claremont comments the comic will not only be a poignant reunion between him and Logan, but Natasha Romanoff too, as she appeared in his first Marvel story, 1973’s “Daredevil” #102. The first issue of “Wolverine: Madripoor Knights” releases February 7.

– The winners of the National Cartoonists Society’s annual Reuben Awards were announced last week, with the top prize going to “Zippy the Pinhead” creator Bill Griffith. Bill Plympton received the Milton Caniff Lifetime Achievement Award, while Hilary Price won the Elzie Segar Award, and Brian Walker won the Silver T-Square Award for service to the medium. Other winners this year included Alex Ross (for “Fantastic Four: Full Circle”), Ben Bender (“Beorn: The Littlest Viking”), Phil Foglio (“Girl Genius”), Rich Powell (“Wide Open”), Will Henry (“Wallace the Brave”), Dave Blazek (“Loose Parts”), Matt Davies (Newsday), and Christopher Weyant (The New Yorker).

– “March” artist Nate Powell’s next project will be an adaptation of James W. Loewen’s Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong. As its title suggests, Loewen’s award-winning 1995 book critiqued 12 major high school history textbooks, which were all “marred by an embarrassing combination of blind patriotism, mindless optimism, sheer misinformation, and outright lies.” The New Press, which published the original book, will release “Lies My Teacher Told Me: A Graphic Adaptation” on April 16, 2024; it will retail at 256 pages in paperback for $27.99. In the meantime, Abrams will publish Powell’s next original graphic novel, “Fall Through,” on February 6.

– In manga news, Kadokawa announced a manga based on Netflix’s new anime series Gamera: Rebirth. The comic, titled “Gamera -Rebirth- code thyrsos,” is a prequel about the titular kaiju’s origins, and was drawn by Cambria Bakuhatsu Taro. The first chapter is available now in English on platforms like BookWalker. Meanwhile, Shueisha announced a Spider-Man gag manga by Setta Kobayashi and Hachi Mizuno, called “Spider-Man: Kizuna (Bonds).” It follows Yu, a transfer student who fuses together with Spider-Man, and will debut in Saikyō Jump magazine on October 4. An English release will be presumably announced at a later date.

The Boys spin-off Gen V will introduce Tek Knight, who is being portrayed by actor Derek Wilson (Future Man, Preacher). In the comics, Tek Knight (Robert Vernon) was a member of Payback who wore a suit of flying armor, and who struggled with sex addiction. Details on the live-action version of the character, and how he gets involved with superhero academy Godolkin University were not disclosed, although he has been mentioned on the main show as having become an actor (who plays himself.) Gen V premieres September 29.

– DC in Concert will celebrate the 35th anniversary of Tim Burton’s Batman with a touring performance of Danny Elfman’s score this January. The tour’s American leg will last into April, and it will conclude with performances in Paris and London in May. The presale starts on Wednesday, September 13, with tickets going on sale for the general public on Friday, September 15 (the day before Batman Day.) Dates and locations can be found at the link.

– Legendary have pulled the plug on the Kickstarter for “Gundam Breaker Battlogue: New Build.” The graphic novel by Nobuo Masuda and Nelson Daniel, which was set to become the first American Gundam comic book, was pulled because it appeared it would not meet its $80,000 goal by the September 23 target. The company states they will revisit the project at a later date.

– Very briefly: the public beta for the GlobalComix app’s iOS version is now available from the Apple Store. The company said that an Android version is “coming very soon.” Meanwhile, Warner Bros. revealed the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer will finally drop this Thursday.

– Finally, via People magazine, Captain America actor Chris Evans and Warrior Nun star Alba Baptista got married in a private ceremony on Saturday, September 9. The couple, respectively aged 42 and 26, had been dating since 2021. Evans’s fellow Marvel actors, Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, and John Krasinski attended the ceremony, along with his Pain Hustlers co-star Emily Blunt. The couple’s representatives did not respond to a request for comment.
