In case you missed it, Jen Wang has a new graphic novel from First Second Books called “Stargazing,” Dark Horse Comics commemorated the recent hardcover release of Anthony Bourdain’s “Hungry Ghosts,” and Marvel is launching a new “Winter Soldier” mini-series from Kyle Higgins and Rod Reis.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that Henry Cavill won’t be returning as Superman in the DC Universe. Warner Bros. and Cavill were negotiating a cameo in the upcoming Shazam! when talks broke down, and “the door is now closing” for other appearances. Warner Bros. hasn’t confirmed the move, but their official statement didn’t outright deny it either, saying, “While no decisions have been made regarding any upcoming Superman films, we’ve always had great respect for and a great relationship with Henry Cavill, and that remains unchanged.” Deadline is reporting that Michael B. Jordan (Black Panther) is being considered as an eventual replacement.

– John Allison will be writing and drawing a double-sized holiday special for “Giant Days” called, “Giant Days: Where Women Glow and Men Plunder” #1. The story takes place in Australia and was inspired by Allison’s love of Australian soap operas. He promises “sun, surf, spiders and snags.” While Allison drew the original webcomic, he has not drawn a full issue of the series during its tenure at BOOM! Studios. The oversized one-shot will be on sale in December.

Two exclusive items available for Local Comic Shop Day 2018 have been revealed. Dark Horse will have an exclusive variant cover for “William Gibson’s Alien 3 – The Unproduced Screenplay” #1, and Image will have a special hardcover collection of the first volume of “Gideon Falls.” Local Comic Shop Day 2018 will happen on November 17. Last year’s celebration had 21 exclusive items, so expect more reveals soon.

– DC’s “Sasquatch Detective” is returning in a prestige format one-shot in December from writer/creator Ben Caldwell and artist Ron Randall. The character was originally featured in backup stories for “Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles.” The new special will feature a new 30-page story detailing the character’s origins, along with collecting the original backup stories. “Sasquatch Detective” #1 will go on sale December 12 for $7.99.

– Ezra Claytan Daniels’s upcoming graphic novel, “Upgrade Soul,” has been optioned by Aperture Entertainment, the company that produced the film adaptation of “My Friend Dahmer.” “Upgrade Soul” is described as “a David Cronenberg-esque fairytale of wish fulfillment wherein an elderly African-American couple participate in an experimental rejuvenation procedure and unexpectedly find themselves faced with severely disfigured but intellectually superior clones of themselves.”

Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why) has been cast as the lead in Netflix’s Cursed, an Arthurian legend show from Frank Miller and Tom Wheeler, based on their upcoming illustrated YA novel of the same name. Langford will play Nimue, “a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake.”

Top Cow is relaunching “The Darkness” next year for the property’s 25th anniversary.  Top Cow publisher Matt Hawkins will write the series with Tom Grindberg on art.

– Following up on the news that current “Nightwing” writer Benjamin Percy will leave the title after #50, Scott Lobdell has been confirmed as taking it over at least through #53. The story will follow the events of “Batman” #55, where (SPOILER) Dick gets shot in the head and suffers complete memory loss.

Nick Roche (“The Transformers: Last Stand of the Wreckers”) is working on a new series with colorist Chris O’Halloran (“Exiles”), and teased pages of the art on Twitter. He is still looking for a publisher for the project and will announce the name when it finds a home.

– First Second Books continued their two weeks of Spring 2019 cover reveals with one from “Island Book” by Evan Dahm. The story centers around “a girl who leaves her home because of a curse and ventures out to explore the world.”
