– Via a Screen Rant exclusive, comiXology have announced “Black Sight,” a horror comic written by Stephanie Phillips, with art from Conor Boyle, and lettering by Tom Napolitano. Set in 1964, the book follows Alex Greer, who arrives in Amsterdam after her mother passes away. Alex spends the night with a mysterious woman, only to find her dead in the morning, and though she is taken to prison, there’s “more going on than meets the eye,” as other mysterious people watch her, intending to use her in an experiment. “Black Sight” #1 goes on sale September 26th from comiXology Originals, and sports a cover by Dave Johnson.
– Marvel have announced Federica Mancin will take over as artist on “Miles Morales: Spider-Man” with issue #11 in October. Mancin was the winner of a Marvel training program for artists at Disneyland Paris earlier this year, and her other work includes horror titles like Band of Bards’s “From the Static.” Her first issue, due out October 18, will see Miles team up with Blade against new villain Hightail, and see the younger Spider-Man wear a new, Blade-esque costume with a coat.
– Marvel also revealed Captain America: The Shield of Sam Wilson, a new prose anthology from Titan Books by best-selling Black American writers, including Kyoko M, L.L. McKinney, Gary Phillips, Sheree Renée Thomas, Alex Simmons, Nicole Givens Kurtz, and many others. The short stories within are inspired by the character’s comic book runs. The book is edited by Jesse J. Holland. Captain America: The Shield of Sam Wilson hits bookstores on June 11, 2024, shortly before Captain America: Brave New World‘s released on July 26.
– Via Bloody Disgusting, Archie Comics have announced they will be at H45: 45 years of Terror, a Halloween convention, where they will debut two crossover prints by artist Matt Talbot. These prints depict Michael Myers stalking Sabrina Spellman, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, and even Salem. Talbot says “Archie Horror and Halloween are two of my very favorite spooky things – and the chance to not only see them together, but draw them together? It doesn’t get any better than that!” H45: 45 years of Terror will take place from September 29th – October 1st at the Pasadena Convention Center in beautiful sunny Southern California.
– Via Comic Book Yeti, GlobalComix have announced three new ways to help creators run a successful campaign at every stage, from prelaunch to fulfillment. Creators will have the chance to promote their work at pre-launch or during a campaign by providing sample pages from their comic on the GlobalComix platform. GlobalComix will also help fulfill digital rewards, including offering custom codes to fulfill rewards. GlobalComix will also increase promotion and sales through digital distribution. Readers can sign up for free at GlobalComix, where there are currently 100,000 monthly active users.
– Via Pensoft, researchers have named a newly discovered Australian spider species Venomius tomhardyi, after the Marvel character and actor who portrays him, Tom Hardy. The distinctive black spots on the arachnid’s abdomen reminded the scientists of Venom’s head, inspiring them to select the name. The holotype of the new species was discovered and preserved at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery following an expedition to Tasmania, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. – Via Anime News Network, Attack on Titan‘s official website released a new promo for the final episode of the anime and revealed the release date. Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 4 will premiere on November 4, 2023 on Lemino, d Anime Store, Netflix, TELASA, U-NEXT, Amazon Prime, DMM TV, and ABEMA services in Japan at midnight JST. The website also announced “Attack on Titan Worldwide After Party,” an event which will be held from November 5-8, as a sort of “fan participation wrap party.” The anime originally aired in April 2013. Attack on Titan The Final Season Part 4 will debut November 4, 2023.
– Lastly, it was confirmed in a Vanity Fair interview with Bad Bunny that he is no longer attached to star in Sony’s El Muerto movie. The film, based on a wrestler who only appeared in two issues of “Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man” in 2006, was originally set for release in January 2024. Meanwhile, Ms. Marvel directors Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah confirmed that a second season of the show will be decided after the release of The Marvels. That “will decide what the next step will be” for the character, the pair said.
