– Avatar: The Last Airbender fan favorite Uncle Iroh will get the spotlight in Dark Horse’s “Avatar: The Last Airbender – The Bounty Hunter and the Tea Brewer.” The graphic novel will see Iroh become pursued by the bounty hunter June across the Earth Kingdom, while trying to figure out who wants him brought in. Writer Faith Erin Hicks, artist Peter Wartman, and colorist Adele Matera return to the world of the four nations, handling creative duties for the 80-page OGN. Avatar Studios’s Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko consulted on the project. The book will be in bookstores on May 14, 2024, hitting comic shops the following day.
– Meanwhile, Dark Horse’s “Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins” series will conclude in 2024, with graphic novels focused on Marisha Ray’s Beauregard Lionett, and Taliesin Jaffe’s Caduceus Clay. Each will be co-written by Dungeon Master Matthew Mercer and the respective actor/player. Legend of Vox Machina co-writer Mae Catt will help script the Beau comic, set during her time in the Way of the Cobalt Soul. CR portrait artist Kendra Wells co-scripts Caduceus’s book, focusing on the rituals of the Blooming Grove, and a creeping corruption the cleric must stop. Guilherme Balbi and Selina Espiritu provide art, with Espiritu having worked on the Caleb and Fjord books. “Mighty Nein Origins – Beauregard Lionett” lands in bookstores on April 30, and comic shops on May 1. “Mighty Nein Origins – Caduceus Clay” will be in bookstores June 4, and comic shops on the 5th.
– 1983’s fantasy film Deathstalker is getting a comic adaptation, with the help of former Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash. Vault Comics will publish the book, with Tim Seely writing, and Jim Terry providing art. Both Raven Banner Entertainment and Corman library rights holders Shout! Studios will be involved as well. The original film was part of the ’80s fantasy film boom following the success of Conan the Barbarian, and is arguably best known for its iconic Boris Vallejo poster. A Kickstarter is set for this October, with eyes on a 2024 release.
– Following a 12-issue run that closed out this week, DC announced it will relaunch “The Batman & Scooby-Doo Mysteries” as an ongoing series. The miniseries that just wrapped up this week was the second following the cancellation of DC’s “Scooby-Doo Team-Up” in 2019. The first three issues will see the Mystery Machine gang investigate a haunting at Haly’s Circus with Nightwing; outwit Catwoman; and delve into Solomon Grundy’s Slaughter Swamp. The series will feature returning creators, such as writers Sholly Fisch, Ivan Cohen, Amanda Deibert, and Matthew Cody, and artists Dario Brizuela and Scott Jeralds. Writer J. Torres and artist Megan Huang are also set to join the series. The first issue is set to release on January 2, 2024.
– Mad Cave Studios announced their upcoming horror comic “Charred Remains.” Written by Anthony Cleveland with art from Andrea Mutti, the story follows Amy Dumas, as the fire entity that killed her entire family as a child returns to set her hometown ablaze. Cleveland based the series on his experiences as a coroner’s deputy. Issue #1 hits shelves on December 13.
– Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece had been renewed for a second season. The announcement was made by manga creator Eiichiro “Oda-Sensei” Oda, by way of a Den Den Mushi puppet. You can follow along with our weekly look at the series so far here.
– As part of Hulu’s “Huluween” and Disney+’s Hallowstream, Werewolf by Night will be making its ”in color” debut. The special debuted on Disney+ last year, and was originally presented in black-and-white to mimic class horror cinema. The new color version will be available to watch on October 20, while the original was added to Hulu today.
Continued below– Despite having died in 2017, Adam West will portray “ADAM,” the Batman ‘66-style Batmobile aiding Bam in DC’s preschool-targeted Batwheels. This was done using dialogue West recorded for another project shortly before his death. The episode, “To The Batmobile,” premieres as part of this weekend’s Batman Day celebrations on the Max streaming service today.
– The soundtrack to Rogers: The Musical is available as of today from Walt Disney Records. The full cast recording will be available digitally and on music streaming services, though it has yet to receive a confirmed physical release. The mini-musical began as a one-off joke in 2021’s Hawkeye, before growing into an actual live production at Disney California Adventure Park’s Hyperion Theater, running from June 30 to August 31.
– Finally, Donald and Stephen Glover’s Lando is no longer being produced as a TV show, but rather a movie. Stephen Glover made the announcement on the Pablo Torre Finds Out podcast, though he did add that the writers’ strike had slowed production.
