In case you missed it, BOOM! Studios announced the miniseries “Buckhead,” while Dark Horse revealed “Daisy” and “The Icon,” and Marvel announced that author Victor LaValle would team up with artist Leonard Kirk for “Sabretooth.” We also had an exclusive preview of “The United States of Captain America” #4.

– Arancia Studio and Image Comics have announced the graphic novel “Leone: Notes on a Life” from writer Carmine Di Giandomenico and artist Francesca Colafella. Via Tripwire, the book is based on the true story of an Italian jazz musician who immigrated to the U.S. in search of freedom and fortune. Starting from his last concert in New York City and working non-linearly through the story of his life, the graphic novel is billed as a real ‘musical’ book, based on the life of Colafella’s grandfather. “Leone: Notes on a Life” plays its tune on December 15.
– Marvel’s solicitations were released yesterday, which included the previously unannounced news that Alex Paknadel and Diogenes Neves would be taking on the Spider-Man tie-in to the upcoming ‘Darkhold’ event. “The Darkhold: Spider-Man” #1 will take a trip into the “warped world of Spider-Man’s broken mind” after reading the ancient Darkhold drives Peter Parker insane. The book will feature a cover by James Harren as well as a variant cover by Cian Tormey, and a cover connecting to the previous ‘Darkhold’ one-shots by Josemaria Casanovas. “The Darkhold: Spider-Man” #1 hits shelves on December 15.
– DC’s solicitations, meanwhile, have a tease of a big event coming in 2022. Via Newsarama, the solicitation text for December’s “Justice League Annual” #1 from Brian Michael Bendis and Sanford Green teases the return of Wonder Woman to the team, but also makes note that the annual’s events lead into ‘Justice League vs. the Legion of Super-Heroes’ next year. Bendis was notably the last writer to pen the Legion’s ongoing series before its cancellation back in January. “Justice League Annual” #1 drops on December 14.
– The comiXology Originals graphic novel “Liebestrasse” will be getting a print release courtesy of Dark Horse next summer. Via The Beat, the graphic novel from writer Greg Lockard, artist Tim Fish, colorist Hector Barros, and letterer Lucas Gattoni was released digitally on comiXology back in 2019, before going on to pick up a nomination for Best Comic at the 2020 GLAAD Media Awards. The book’s planned print release is the latest to be announced from Dark Horse, following similar announcements for comiXology series “The Stone King,” “Forgotten Home,” and “In the Flood.” The print release of “Liebestrasse” will hit shelves on June 7, 2022.
– The video game Call of Duty: Vanguard will receive a prequel comic available exclusively to attendees of the developer’s New York Comic-Con panel. Via Newsarama, Sledgehammer Games announced they’d have a special panel at the convention next month. The comic features art by Piotr Kowalski and colors by Brad Simpson, and will focus on the character of Polina, the game’s protagonist, who was first revealed last month in a gameplay demo at Gamescom Opening Night Live. Polina is played in the game by voice actress Laura Bailey, known for her performances in The Last of Us 2 and as a main cast member on Critical Role. The panel will be held on October 10, ahead of Call of Duty: Vanguard’s launch on November 5.
– IDW Publishing announced “Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures Annual 2021,” a one-shot that will feature stories by all of the ‘High Republic’ line’s writers, including Claudia Gray, Justina Ireland, Daniel José Older, Cavan Scott, and Charles Soule. Artists on the 48-page book will consist of Sam Beck, Jesse Lonegran, Jason Loo, Yael Nathan, and Stefano Simeone, and it will be released in December with a Cover A by Stefano Simeone, and a Cover B by Jason Loo.
– IDW also released a short motion comic on social media that ties into their current miniseries “Bermuda.” The mini-comic, titled “A Bermuda Short,” comes from writer and letterer John Layman, artist Nick Bradshaw, and colorist Len O’Grady, with editing by Scott Dunbier. Both it and the larger miniseries follow Bermuda, a 16-year-old girl who lives in a land “untouched by time and civilization.” The minicomic, which teases issue #3 of the series, finds Bermuda coming into conflict with a dangerous group of Tyrannosaurus rexes. “Bermuda” #3 went on sale this week, while the final issue will be in shops on October 20.
– Finally, LibraryPass and TKO Studios have announced that the comic publisher’s entire digital catalogue will become available to libraries and schools through the Comics Plus program. That program will include day and date access to new releases from the publisher, as well as access to previous titles like “Sentient,” “The Banks,” and “Djeliya.” The Comics Plus program offers unlimited, simultaneous checkouts of the titles on their platform, which includes books from Archie Comics, BOOM! Studios, Dark Horse, Tokyopop, and more.
