Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.
– Not content with merely writing Superman comics or posting YouTube videos that dissect Superman storylines, screenwriter Max Landis is now pitching his version of Man of Steel 2. Actually, that’s a little disingenuous to say; he’s not pitching this to actual WB suits or anyone in a position to act upon his spun yarn (unless you count the fan masses who see this video). While I’m not sure Landis’ version of the character and mine overlap too terribly much, I will say there were parts of the pitch I enjoyed, especially if you look at it as a followup to the specific events/disaster porn of Man of Steel (which you should) and not just a Superman take in general. I guess we’ll have to read Landis’ “Adventures of Superman” story or wait for “American Son” to come out in a few months before we get that.
– Koyama Press, one of the best-regarded indie publishers around, has announced their Spring 2016 lineup. Next year will see Koyama put out works by Rokudenashiko, Patrick Kyle, Cathy G. Johnson, Aidan Koch, and Ben Sears’ Night Air.
– “2000 AD” fans in particular already know that Ian Edginton and D’Israeli are a writer/artist combo on par with Brubaker/Phillips when it comes to consistently exceptional work year after year after year. But it’s nice to see Rebellion/2000AD buying the rights to “Scarlet Traces”, one of the duo’s only major work not available or already at that publisher, in order to get it back into print and wider recognition. “Scarlet Traces” and the subsequent sequel & prequel, are Edginton & D’Israeli’s take on the H. G. Wells’ War of the Worlds storyline, and are just as awesome as you’d expect the team behind “Stickleback” or “Helium” to make them.
– With nearly two months to go until showtime, Netflix finally releases Jessica Jones cast photos. Kinda disappointed we don’t see David Tennant with purple skin, but I’m sure there’ll be some type of purple flair (maybe in the eyes?) when he works his voodoo on people. Other than that, they look as good as I’d expect them to.
– We’re a week out from Baltimore Comicon, so here’s the programming schedule for you to start planning your 3-day itinerary after you recover from this weekend’s SPX.
– In today’s “Awwwwwww” category, “Spider-Man 2099” artist Will Sliney proposed to his girlfriend via comic slides.
