– Variety.com have announced that Alan Tudyk (Rogue One: A Star Wars Story) has been cast in the Resident Alien pilot for Syfy. He will play the lead, an alien called Captain Hah Re, who crash lands in the little town of Patience, Colorado, and takes up the guise of retired doctor Harry Vanderspeigle. The series will be based off of the Dark Horse comic book of the same name, created by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse. Resident Alien has also added Sara Tomko (Once Upon a Time) in the role of Asta Twelvetrees, Corey Reynolds (NCIS: Los Angeles) as Sheriff Mike Thompson, Alice Wetterlund (Silicon Valley) as D’arcy and Levi Fiehler (Mars) as Ben Hawthorne. This isn’t the only comic role Tudyk has been cast in, having recently taken up the role of Mr. Nobody in DC Universe’s Doom Patrol.
– Scholastic Graphix has released their Spring 2019 catalog, which includes Share Your Smile: Raina’s Guide to Telling Your Own Story, an “interactive journal” by Raina Telgemeier that will teach children how to make comics, due out in April. The line-up also includes new entries in the “Dog Man,” “Mr. Wolf’s Class” and “Bird & Squirrel” series, as well as “Catwad: It’s Me,” a new book by Jim Benton. For more on these titles, visit ICv2.
– Entertainment Weekly have learned that DC Universe has found its Courtney Whitmore, aka Stargirl: Brec Bassinger (Nickelodeon’s School of Rock) has been cast as the hero. The series will be executive produced by Geoff Johns, who commented about the casting, “There is no other character in comic books more special to me than Stargirl, and after searching far and wide I can say there is no other actor on the planet that embodies her more than Brec Bassinger. Brec’s warmth, strength, humor and positive energy are core to who Country Whitmore is. I’m so grateful she’s signed on for the role.” Johns created the character in 1999, basing her off of his sister who died in a plane crash. Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Supergirl) are also attached as executive producers.
– In more DC casting news, Jeremy Davies (Constantine, Sleepy Hollow) has been cast as Arkham Asylum’s Dr John Deegan in the CW’s DC crossover, which will bring together Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl. This year’s crossover will feature the characters arriving in Gotham and interacting with Batwoman (Ruby Rose). The three night crossover will start on Sunday, December 9, and finishes December 11.
– “Batman: Damned” #1, written by Brian Azzarello and illustrated by Lee Bermejo, was released this week, and The Hollywood Reporter has learned that DC Entertainment will censor a panel of the newly released comic. The panel in question features full frontal male nudity. There are 115,000 print versions that have not been censored but future issues will be, while digital editions of the book have always been censored. THR learned that a source close to the project stated the “nudity did not add to the story.” The series is the first official entry in DC’s Black Label, which is aimed at mature readers.
– Akira Toriyama has created new characters for Jump Force, a new video game starring characters in Viz Media’s Weekly Shonen Jump. Toriyama is the creator of “Dr. Slump” and the hit manga series “Dragon Ball,” and has also provided character designs for other video games like Dragon Quest. Jump Force, which will let you customize your own manga Character, has a confirmed release month of February 2019. Check out the new character trailer here.
– The wait is nearly over for Daredevil season 3: Netflix has released a new poster and trailer for the new season, which both show the series will return on October 19.
– Oscar-winning duo Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross will compose the music for HBO’s Watchmen. The duo won the Oscar for 2010’s The Social Network and have also worked on The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Gone Girl and Patriots Day Watchmen, which is being overseen by Damon Lindelof and stars the likes of Jeremy Irons (Justice League), Regina King (Friday) and Don Johnson (Sick Note), is expected to arrive next year.
