– Miguel O’Hara will battle his way across the horrors of Marvel’s future in an upcoming five-part miniseries from writer Steve Orlando. “Miguel O’Hara – Spider-Man 2099” will run for five parts, with new issues available weekly. Each issue with feature a new artist, with Devmalya Pramanik helming the first, followed by Michael Dowling, Jason Muhr, Chris Campana, and Stefano Raffaele. The series will see Miguel team up with 2099 reimaginings of Blade and Moon Knight to do battle with new takes on Marvel horror creatures such as Man-Thing and Werewolf by Night. Issue #1 will drop January 3, while the last will release January 31.

– Marvel also announced that writer Marc Guggenheim and artist Álvaro López will explore the world of the original Planet of the Apes film series. The four-part “Beware the Planet of the Apes” takes place after the original 1968 classic, featuring characters such as Cornelius, Zira, and the human woman Nova. The book follows them as they search the Forbidden Zone for Cornelius and Zira’s nephew, Lucius. This is not the first time Marvel has adapted the world of the original sci-fi franchise, as they first published “Adventures on the Planet of the Apes” in 1974. Guggenheim has stated that parts of these books will be reused for the new series. Issue #1 is due out January 3.

– Writer Mark Verheiden is joining forces with Battlestar Galactica actor Aaron Douglas to script a new horror miniseries from Dark Horse, “Borealis.” Set in Qinu, Alaska, the book follows State Trooper Silaluk “Sil” Osha, as a series of murders pulls her back to the isolated community, forcing her to confront her own connection to the legendary horrors of the town. Cliff Richards provides art, with Guy Major on colors. Issue #1 (of 3) is due out on December 20.

– Meanwhile, via Deadline, Dark Horse revealed “Time Traveler Tales,” the comic from YouTuber and MrBeast collaborator Karl Jacobs. The series is based on Jacobs’s Minecraft streaming series Tales from the SMP, and follows a traveler named Oliver as he’s cast through time and space. – “Stray Bullets” creators David and Maria Lapham are creating a more supernatural crime series, out soon from BOOM! Studios. “Underheist” follows a criminal, who after being crushed by gambling debt, takes one last job, pulling a heist in the NYC subway tunnel system. But the job isn’t nearly as simple as it sounds… Issue #1 is due out digitally and physically on December 13.

– R.L. Stine has a new “Stuff of Nightmares” coming in time for the holiday season from BOOM! Studios. “Stuff of Nightmares: Slay Ride” tells the story of Heinrick Fiddler, a mall Santa who becomes deranged as shopping malls across America close down. Bram Stoker Award-nominee Pius Bak handles art duties, with Francesco Segala on colors. Issue #1 will be available December 6.

– We got our first glimpse of the last few episodes of Doom Patrol from a new trailer, available on the Max streaming service’s official YouTube. The final season’s second half is set to premiere on the streamer on October 12.

The Riddler: Secrets in the Dark, the latest audio drama from DC and Spotify, will feature Colman Domingo as Batman. The new series follows the Caped Crusader as he’s forced to team with the Riddler (Hasan Minhaj) to stop a murderous vigilante. Other cast members include Hannah Simone, Calum Worthy, Gina Rodriguez, Jason Isaacs, Ashly Burch, and Jim Pirri. David S. Goyer led the creative team. The eight-episode series will be available on Spotify on October 10.

– Speaking of Goyer, the writer David S. Goyer disclosed he worked with director Guillermo del Toro on an unproduced Star Wars movie during an appearance on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. Del Toro subsequently confirmed that he worked on the project “about six years or so” ago. “Can’t say much,” he said. “Maybe two letters ‘J’ and ‘BB,’ [or] is that three letters?” Del Toro previously commented in 2015 that he would want to make a movie about Jabba the Hutt, as a “sort of Godfather saga” about how he gained control of the Hutt Clan. “I just love the character,” he said.

– Finally, Nippon Television Holdings will be taking over Studio Ghibli, according to a recent statement. The broadcaster will own 42.3 percent of Studio Ghibli’s shares. Nippon TV’s senior operating officer and board director Hiroyuki Fukuda will head up the acclaimed Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro animation house, with studio president President Toshio Suzuki taking over as chairman, and co-founder Hayao Miyazaki made honorary chairman. According to the press release, Nippon TV will handle management, allowing Studio Ghibli — and its ageing leadership — to focus more on the creative side of their projects.
