– “Book of Evil,” the penultimate series in Scott Snyder’s deal with comiXology, will begin on Amazon on Tuesday, October 4. Created with artist Jock (who previously collaborated with Snyder on various Batman titles and “Wytches”) and graphic designer Emma Price, the horror comic tells the story of four young friends living in a near future where most people turn into psychopaths during puberty. Presented as the illustrated journal of the 12-year-old protagonist, Homer, who sets off to find a fabled safe haven with his friends, the book also contains excerpts of ‘The Book of Evil,’ a comic strip about a time-traveling murderer. You can read a preview over at io9.

– Via Polygon, DC announced the Webtoon strip “Batman: Wayne Family Adventures” will begin its second season this week. Writer CRC Payne told fans, “This season, we’re going to dive deeper into these characters and explore what makes them heroes, both in the everyday sense and in the superhero sense.” A crossover with one of DC’s newest Webtoon strips, “Vixen: NYC,” will also feature this season. Created in collaboration with a team that includes lead artist StarBite, storyboard artists Maria Li & Geoniya Acuna, and colorist C.M. Cameron, “Batman: Wayne Family Adventures” season two runs weekly beginning tomorrow, September 28.

– Skybound Comet announced “Ava’s Demon, Book One: Reborn” will be released on Wednesday, May 24, and bookstores and digital platforms the following week on Tuesday, May 30, 2023. The grade 7-9 book, which collects the webcomic by Michelle Fus, tells the story of Ava, a girl who has been haunted all her life by a demon named Wrathia. When she discovers she “actually the spirit of an ancient alien queen named Wrathia, the two form a powerful pact — in exchange for a better life, Ava must help Wrathia seek revenge against TITAN, the godlike being who destroyed her empire. To aid in the fight, Ava must assemble Wrathia’s most trusted warriors and their host lifeforms.” You can read a preview over at the School Library Journal‘s website.

– Via press release, writer Dirk Manning and artist Austin McKinley announced plans to release their new graphic novel, “Tales of Mr. Rhee Vol. 5: Rockstar Paranoia” (which will be published by Source Point Press) at the New York Comic Con during the weekend of October 6-9. The news comes more than a couple of years after Manning was accused of manipulative behavior in relationships, including lying and gaslighting, from several women, including writer Elizabeth Amber Love, and blogger Turanna Black.

– In MCU news, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever actor Tenoch Huerta confirmed to Empire magazine his version of Namor will be the ruler of Talocan (named for the Aztec paradise Tlālōcān) instead of Atlantis, and that he will be (like the comics) a mutant. Meanwhile, screenings of Werewolf by Night confirmed Laura Donnelly will be playing Elsa Bloodstone, whose zombified father Ulysses is integral to the plot of the Disney+ special. Werewolf by Night will be released October 7, while Wakanda Forever will arrive in theaters on November 11.

– At France’s Cartoon Forum event, French studio Folimage (A Cat in Paris) revealed plans to develop a series of shorts on “Anuki,” a comic by Stéphane Senegas and Frédéric Maupomé about a Native American boy. An adult-aimed series of shorts based on Belgian cartoonist Laura Janssens (aka Niet Nu Laura)’s Instagram comic “Hamsters” was also pitched; the comic, and its adaptation, revolve around Philippe and Giovanni, a pair of gay hamsters commenting on the world from their cage. You can check out more projects being pitched at Cartoon Forum at Variety.

– Finally, a pair of public screenings for the documentary Mike Mignola: Drawing Monsters were announced. First, it will be screened by the Secret Movie Club at Los Angeles’ Million Dollar Theater on Saturday, October 15. It will then be shown a week later at the Portland Film Festival on October 22. A panel with the filmmakers was also announced for Pasadena’s LightBox Expo on Sunday, October 16. For more details, including links to order tickets, head to the press release at Daily Dead.
