In case you missed it, “Golgo 13” creator Takao Saito passed away at the age of 84. We also revealed “Canto” #1 will be getting a special reprint courtesy of Whatnow for New York Comic Con.

Lunar Distribution

– Lunar Distribution has announced a deal with three independent publishers, those publishers being Floating World Comics, Silver Sprocket, and Uncivilized Books. “Lunar’s focus is to offer publishers with a passion for comics and diversity to our retail accounts,” Lunar founder Christina Merkler said of the deal, “and we believe they will be a perfect fit.” The associated publishers will be offering retailers a 50% discount starting with their December releases, though they will also offer it for October and November books on FOC.

– The Saturn Awards announced their dates and venue. The 46th annual event, presented by the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror, will be held at the L.A. Marriott Burbank Hotel on October 26. Also announced were special award honorees, including Midnight Mass creator Mike Flanagan for the Visionary Award, and The Flash showrunner Eric Wallace getting The Dan Curtis Legacy Award. Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell will host the event.

– Manga artist Posuka Demizu (“The Promised Neverland”) illustrated a special promotional image for Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune. Villeneuve states that he was “in awe” of the image, calling it “very beautiful” and “very poetic.” The director adds, “It’s very humbling to me when I see what other artists feel from the ‘image’ in my work, and how they reflect that in their own work.” Dune opens in Japan on October 15, and hits American theaters on October 22.

The Book of Boba Fett will premiere on December 29 of this year, exclusively on Disney+. The Mandalorian spin-off stars Temuera Morrison, resuming his role as the title bounty hunter, and Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand.

– In other Mandalorian-related news, Lucy Lawless has commented on fans putting her forward as a replacement for Gina Carano, suggesting the demand may have hurt her chances of appearing in a Star Wars project. The former Xena star claims she was in discussions for “something Star Wars-affiliated,” but suggests the studio became apprehensive at the perceived political nature of the fan casting. “I became political and I had nothing to do with the discussion,” she says, though she does add that she is grateful for the support. Carano was released from the Disney+ series after several controversial social media posts, the most notable of which compared “hating someone for their political views” to Nazi Germany. Lawless claims to be busy with multiple “secret projects,” one of which with Xena and My Life Is Murder co-star Renée O’Connor.

– Shannon Watters announced via Twitter that she is no longer a senior editor at BOOM! Studios. “I’m utterly grateful for my tenure there & everything that grew out of BOOM! Box,” she tweets, “but it was time to stride boldly forward into the Vast Unknown.” Watters added that she’s “now sniffing around for new opportunities in writing and editing,” mentioning that her contact information was on her new website (featuring art from “Giant Days” alum Max Sarin).

– 52 self-portraits from some of Italy’s biggest comic artists will hang in Florence’s Uffitzi museum. The portraits will join a gallery that includes works from masters such as Botticelli, Michelangelo, Caravaggio and Leonardo da Vinci. The portraits were commissioned by the museum, Italy’s culture minister, and European comic festival Lucca Comics & Games. Lucca Comics & Games will also select a “grand master” to join the collection annually. The portraits will be showcased in Lucca, Tuscany, from October 8 to November 1 before they’re moved to their new home.

– The October 25 issue Tokuma Shoten’s Comic Zenon magazine will feature a “Fist of the North Star” spin-off centered around fighting style “genius” Amiba. The new manga will be published in the magazine under the title “Hokuto no Ken Gaiden: Taisen Amiba no Isekai Haо̄ Densetsu – Isekai ni Itte mo Ore wa Tensai da!! N? Machigatta ka na…” This translates to “Fist of the North Star Side Story: Genius Amiba’s Another World Overlord Legend – Even If I Go to Another World, I Am a Genius!! Huh? Was I Mistaken…” Sokra Nishiki will write, with Nattо̄ Gohan providing art. The manga was revealed in a photo of Comic Zenon’s November issue on Yasu Hiromoto’s Twitter.

– Finally, documents released by congressional investigators reveal a trio based out of Mar-a-Lago attempted to monetize Veteran medical records, implicating current Marvel Chairman Ike Perlmutter. In a statement, House Oversight Committee chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.), and House Veterans Affairs Committee chairman Mark Takano (D-Calif.) said of the documents, “Ike Perlmutter, Marc Sherman, and Dr. Bruce Moskowitz, bolstered by their connection to President Trump’s private Mar-a-Lago club, violated the law and sought to exert improper influence over government officials to further their own personal interests.” Perlmutter, a Trump donor and Mar-a-Lago member, is the alleged leader of the trio.
