– ComiXology has announced the release dates for the first three titles from writer Scott Snyder’s Best Jackett Press. These books will be released each Tuesday as part of comiXology’s “Scottober” event, which runs throughout October. The first release is “We Have Demons” #1 by Snyder and artist Greg Capullo, due out October 5. The following week, on October 12, Snyder and artist Francis Manapul’s “Clear” #1 will be released. Then, on October 19, “Night of the Ghoul” #1 by Snyder and artist Francesco Francavilla comes out. Finally, on October 26, comiXology will release a Halloween sampler book that features previews of the other five titles coming out soon from Best Jackett Press. Additionally, Scottober will be a featured part of comiXology’s booth at New York Comic-Con 2021, which will be held on October 8-11 from the Javits Center in New York City. Earlier this year, Snyder announced that he would be publishing eight new creator-owned titles through his creator-owned imprint Best Jackett Press, to be distributed digitally by comiXology and in print through Dark Horse. At this time, no print release dates have been set for these titles.

– The Guardians of the Galaxy are coming to EPCOT. As part of the celebration for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary, it was announced that the Guardians will be featured in the Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind ride, which opens in 2022. The attraction is a family-friendly enclosed roller coaster that allows guests to rotate 360 degrees throughout the ride to watch the Guardians in action all around them. The ride will be the first “other-world” showcase pavilion in EPCOT history and will also be the first roller coaster in Disney Parks history to feature a reverse launch. In addition, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be one of the longest enclosed coasters in the world when it is completed.

– Victoria Alonso has revealed that Marvel’s Eternals will be screened at the Rome International Film Festival, which runs from October 14 through October 24. Alonso is the President of Physical and Post Production, Visual Effects, and Animation at Marvel Studios, and confirmed the news herself in a recent interview with 221 Radio. Eternals is set for a wide-release in the United States on November 5, nearly two weeks after the end of the festival. Directed by Chloe Zhao, the film features an ensemble cast including Angelina Jolie, Richard Madden, Kit Harrington, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, and Kumail Nanjiani. It follows a race of immortal beings with godlike powers who must defend Earth from the evil Deviants in the wake of Avengers: Endgame.

– The first trailer for the Disney+ series Just Beyond has been released. The anthology show is based on author R.L. Stine’s best-selling graphic novels series “Just Beyond” from BOOM! Studios. The trailer features numerous clips that highlight many of the different fantastical elements that unfold over the course of the first season, including disfigurement, magic, ghosts, and evil doctors. It also teases viewers with the tagline, “Just beyond the world you know, there is another.” Stine is the creative mind behind Goosebumps and is considered one of the premier names in children’s horror. In 2019, he teamed with artists Kelly and Nichole Matthews for “Just Beyond,” which focuses on a different story in each book. It is unclear at this time if anybody of the episodes of Just Beyond will be directly lifted from the graphic novels. Just Beyond premieres with all eight episodes on October 13.

– “DIE” by Kieron Gillen and Stephanie Hans is becoming the basis for a new role-playing game. The DIE RPG was announced by game developer Grant Howitt and is being crowdfunded through Kickstarter. The game will be written by Gillen and feature new art from Hans. Published by Image Comics, “DIE” tells the story of a group of friends who get sucked into their role-playing game and are forced to live out the lives of their characters before eventually escaping without one of their party members. Years later, the now-adult group of players has to reunite to go back into the game when they are summoned by their lost friend. The DIE RPG campaign does not have a release date yet, but interested fans can sign up on Kickstarter to be notified when it launches.

– Z2 Comics has announced “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer,” a graphic novel focusing on the life of blues musician John Lee Hooker. The book features three stories from Hooker’s life, told from the perspective of those who knew him. It is being written by Gabe Soria and Jarrett Williams, with art by Eisner Award-winning artist Kyle Baker and artist Taylan Kurtulus. “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer” is being produced in conjunction with the John Lee Hooker estate. In their press release, Z2 Comics said that the book will be weave “textured and interpretive stories that rise to the lofty creative heights of his [Hooker’s] music and fall to the gritty reality of trying to thrive in several unforgiving eras.” Z2 Comics has previously published biographical graphic novels on Elvis, Freddie Mercury, Charlie Barker, and other famous musicians.

– Dark Horse has shared a video of a dramatic reading of “Avatar: The Last Airbender – Suki Alone,” featuring voice actors from the cast of Avatar: The Last Airbender. The recording was originally broadcast across the Dark Horse Comics Twitch channel and Nickelodeon’s Avatar YouTube channel on September 22, 2021, and features Jennie Kwan reprising her role as Suki. She is joined by voice actors Deedee Magno Hall, Justino Huxley, Catero Alain Cobert, and Arif S. Kinchen, as well as the comic’s creators, Faith Erin Hicks and Peter Wartman. The reading is immediately followed by a Q&A segment, which is also featured in the video. “Avatar: The Last Airbender – Suki Alone” is the most recent release in Dark Horse’s line of “Avatar” graphic novels that continue the adventures of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, exploring different stories set within canon but outside of the cartoons.

– And lastly, Scarlett Johansson and Disney have settled the actress’s lawsuit over the decision to release Black Widow simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access out of court. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Johansson announced, “I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come.” Johansson sued the company over the belief releasing the film digitally compromised the backend profits she was meant to receive from its box office gross. To date, Black Widow has grossed $378.8 million worldwide.
