Classic Omnibus Vol. 1
– Alien Books, in collaboration with Valiant, have announced an omnibus edition of Jim Shooter’s original “Eternal Warrior” series, as well as prestige format versions of “Ninjak Superkillers” and “X-O Manowar Unconquered.” The omnibus will include work by Shooter, who created the character with Don Perlin in 1992, as well as writers Barry Windsor-Smith, Kevin Van Hook, and Mark Moretti, and artists John Dixon and Moretti. The omnibus is scheduled for release on December 6, 2023. “Ninjak Superkillers,” originally solicited as a 4-issue miniseries by Jeff Parker and Mike Norton, will now be a two-issue prestige format book and will begin on December 20, 2023. “X-O Manowar Unconquered” by Becky Cloonan and Liam Sharp will collect three previously released issues in one prestige format edition, followed by issue #4 a week later. It will be released on December 6, with the next issue being released on December 13.
– Via ComicOn.com, Kyle Higgins announced that “Radiant Black” will be releasing two issues per month for the remainder of the year, beginning with “Radiant Black” #26 and #26.5. Higgins says, “One storyline follows Marshall, one storyline puts the spotlight on Nathan, but both issues are a must-buy for readers to get the full experience. There are, after all, two sides to every story.” The ‘.5’ storyline will run through issue #30.5, which culminates in another massive twist. “Radiant Black” #26 and #26.5 will be available October 25, 2023.
– Via Twitter, Graphix Books announced that readers who pre-order “Courage to Dream: Tales of Hope in the Holocaust” will receive He Opens a Window, a short story by writer Neal Shusterman that inspired the graphic novel. “Courage to Dream,” a middle-grade graphic novel by Shusterman and illustrator Andrés Vera Martínez, explores the Holocaust through “surreal visions and a textured canvas of heroism and hope.” It will be released on October 31, 2023.
– Via Twitter, the 2023 Illinois Bluestem Award recipients were announced at the Association of Illinois School Library Educators conference yesterday. The winners were Varian Johnson and Shannon Wright, creators of the Scholastic Graphix novel “Twins.” The award is designed for students who are ready for longer titles. Named in honor of Big Bluestem, an Illinois prairie grass, the award may include both timeless classics and current titles, as well as books that have appeared on Monarch and Rebecca Caudill lists.
– Via Collider, Marvel Studios have announced a special screening of Werewolf by Night in Color. Collider will host the event, which will take place in North Hollywood on Sunday, October 15, starting at 7pm. Guests will get popcorn and a drink, and have the opportunity to speak with director Michael Giacchino at a Q&A. You can win tickets here. Werewolf by Night in Color will premiere on Disney+ October 20, 2023.
– Finally, in celebration of Loki season two starting this week, the God of Lies has once again been given a new variant in the form of a limited edition Lucky Charms cereal. Sold in novelty boxes with 3D graphics, this special edition cereal will only be available at Walmart stores with a price of $7.96. Boxes from the 2021 limited-edition run are currently listed on eBay at prices reaching nearly $80. You can check out a promo for the cereal here, which drops on October 6. Loki‘s second season will premiere on October 5, at 9:00 PM EST.
