– Author Julie Murphy (Dumplin’) is retelling the origin story of Valiant’s plus-size superhero, Faith, in her new YA novel, Faith: Taking Flight. It follows Faith Herbert, who spends her time with her two best friends and volunteering, while facing the recent discovery that she can fly. The book, due out July 2020, will be the first in a new line of YA prose novels starring Valiant characters published by HarperCollins imprint Balzer + Bray.

– The first look at Vin Diesel’s as Valiant’s supersoldier, Bloodshot was revealed via a toy at NYCC. While not a picture of Vin Diesel himself in costume, the action figure based on his likeness is detailed enough to give us a sneak preview of what to expect when the film arrives on Feb 21, 2020.

– Lion Forge has donated $100,000 in seed money to the Book Industry Charitable Foundation (BINC) to establish The Forge Fund, which is meant to provide confidential financial assistance to comic retailers who are in need.

– Deadline reports Bernadette Peters will join the cast of the CW’s Katy Keene as the mother figure of Julia Chan’s Pepper Smith. Peters will play con artist Ms. Freesia, who is described as “Pepper Smith’s eccentrically elegant surrogate mother and mentor,” who taught them “the art of the con.”

– Writer/director James Wan has signed on to executive produce the TV adaptation of Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino’s “Gideon Falls.” The announcement came Thursday during New York Comic Con by Hivemind, who have licensed and are producing the show.

– DC co-publisher and artist Jim Lee and writer Brad Meltzer will be teaming up for an 8-page story in an unannounced, but upcoming DC War 100-page special. Lee revealed the news during his and Dan Didio’s Meet the DC Publishers panel on Thursday afternoon at NYCC.

– Also at NYCC, DC Universe announced the animated Harley Quinn show will premiere on November 29; a live-action/animated anthology series called BizarroTV; and a fan competition for series pitches called DCYou Unscripted.

– On the video game front, we have an adaptation of the DLC for the PlayStation 4 game Marvel’s Spider-Man. It will be a Black Cat-centric five-issue series titled “Marvel’s Spider-Man: The Black Cat Strikes,” and will be written by Dennis “Hopeless” Hallum and illustrated by artist Luca Maresca.

– Marvel Studios and ILMxLAB announced a virtual reality experience called Avengers: Damage Control. It will be available at select locations at The VOID starting October 18 as a four-week event. Fans will be able to test Shuri’s (Letitia Wright) latest Emergency Response Suits, created with Wakandan and Stark Industries technology. As enemy forces attack, fans visiting the Wakandan Outreach Centers will be enlisted to fight alongside Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), Ant-Man (Paul Rudd), and the Wasp (Evangeline Lilly), among others to protect the world. Tickets are available now at: www.thevoid.com.
