In case you missed it, Korean visual artist Kim Jung Gi has died at the age of 47.

– IDW Publishing announced the new series “Breath of Shadows” from Rich Douek and Alex Cormack. Via Newsarama, Justin Birch will take on the lettering for the five-issue horror series, that finds a rock star stumbling upon “primal horrors that put his own inner demons to shame,” as he gets lost in the South American jungle while attempting to kick his heroin addiction. Set in 1968, the story features a protagonist named Jimmy, as his sense of reality is warped by paranoia and hallucinations. Interior artist Cormack will provide the main cover for the first issue, with variants coming from Björn Barends and Francesco Francavilla. “Breath of Shadows” #1 has a bad trip to shelves in February 2023.

– Just in time for his MCU debut hitting Disney+ this weekend, Werewolf by Night has taken the spotlight for the most recent issue of “Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic” on Marvel Unlimited. Written by Owl Goingback with art by Alison Sampson, colors by Triona Farrell, and letters by Joe Sabino, the issue finds Jake Gomez – the current Werewolf by Night who will also appear in the upcoming Disney+ special alongside the first incarnation, Jack Russell – taking a trip into the Canadian wilderness. That trip puts him up against mysterious threats “that lurk among those snowy pines.” “Marvel’s Voices Infinity Comic” #19 is available now. Werewolf by Night, directed by composer Michael Giacchino, starring Gael García Bernal in the title role, and featuring Jaycob Maya as Jake Gomez, hits Disney+ tomorrow on October 7.

– Marvel is partnering with the pharmaceutical giant Pfizer for a COVID-19 vaccine awareness campaign. Via AIPT, the effort comes in the form of the comic “Avengers: Everyday Heroes,” which finds the titular super team facing off against Ultron while some common folks discuss the nature of heroism as they wait for their vaccines. The comic was written by Paul Allor and features art by Paco Diaz, colors by Chris Sotomayor, and lettering by VC’s Joe Sabino. You can check out “Avengers: Everyday Heroes” for free here.

– The upcoming Blumhouse film Spawn has enlisted a trio of writers, including two comic book film veterans. Via The Hollywood Reporter, Joker co-writer Scott Silver and Falcon and the Winter Soldier showrunner (and upcoming Captain America: New World Order co-writer) Malcolm Spellman have joined the project. The pair will work with new writer Matt Mixon on the script. Blumhouse first began developing the project back in 2017, with “Spawn” creator Todd McFarlane on board as a producer. McFarlane had previously showed interest in directing the film, but the newest report indicates that he is open to courting “A-List” directing talent to take the helm. Neither a production timeline nor a projected release date have been announced for the project.

– Irish animation studio Lighthouse Studios is developing a 2D-animated crime drama based on the comic book “Savage Town” by Declan Shalvey, Philip Barrett, and Jordie Bellaire. Via Deadline, “Savage Town” follows an Irish gangster who makes a play to take control of his city during the period of economic growth known as the Celtic Tiger at the turn of the 21st century, only to find himself trapped between two rival gangs. Marcus Fleming (Dominion Creek, The Running Mate) has signed on as the head writer for the series.

– Via Nerdist, “Tragic,” the queer comic book retelling of Hamlet from author Dana Mele, artist Valentina Pinti, Chiara Di Francia, and letterer Comiccraft’s Jimmy Betancourt, will be getting a second volume. Vol. 2 picks up the story of Harper Hayes’s investigation of her father’s murder immediately following the events of the first volume. “There’s no time jump or loss of momentum,” Mele said. “Vol. 2 really delves deeper not only into the resolution of the murders and what’s really going on with Harper, but also what’s going on with Harper and her family.” Though Nerdist revealed Pinti’s cover for Vol. 2, no release date was announced for the project.

– Marvel released a short teaser for this week’s episode of Disney+’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, that finally addresses the question everyone has been wondering: who will play the beloved supervillain Leap-Frog? The teaser features cast members Tatiana Maslany, Ginger Gonzaga, and Mark Ruffalo doing mock auditions for the character, culminating in a glimpse of the character’s costume (and a special cameo at the end that I will not spoil.) Leap-Frog joins She-Hulk: Attorney at Law for its episode premiering today on Disney+; the season finale of the series airs next week on Thursday, October 13.

– Via The Beat, a fundraising effort have been announced to assist the widow of It’s Alive! Press publisher Drew Ford with sudden death expenses. Ford passed away this week from complications of COVID-19. Glen Haumann of ComicMix and Dimitrios Fragiskatos of Anyone Comics in Brooklyn have volunteered to help sort out any outstanding fulfillments and projects left behind by It’s Alive! Press, and to deal with the logistics of the archival publisher’s inventory. You can read our full obituary for Ford here. A 20-minute memorial will be held for Ford this Saturday, October 8, at 11am, at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York; per the GoFundMe, and an email from Ford’s sister, Erin Lobato, all are invited to attend.
