Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. We usually don’t have a Rundown on Sundays, but are because of the amount of news during NYCC. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

– AMC have announced that The Walking Dead will have a crossover with its spin-off Fear the Walking Dead. Robert Kirkman was more ambiguous at the show’s NYCC panel, saying, “There is one character that is going to go from one show — that I will not name — and appear in the other show — that I will not name.” No information was given on when the two shows will crossover though. The third season of Fear the Walking Dead is currently airing, while the eighth season of The Walking Dead starts October 22.

– During the “Cup O’ Joe – Legacy: Avengers” panel, “Royals” writer Al Ewing announced an “Inhumans: Judgment Day” one-shot for January. He called a “capstone” to the storyline begun in “Inhumans Prime,” comparing it to “The Hunger Dogs,” the book that concluded Jack Kirby’s New Gods run. A Runaways prose novel by Christopher Golden (Hellboy: The Lost Army) in January was also announced.

– Canadian singer The Weeknd tweeted he and Marvel are collaborating on “Starboy,” a comic based on his 2016 album of the same name. It comes in the wake of “Masters of the Sun,” Marvel’s graphic novel collaboration with the Black Eyed Peas earlier this year. “Starboy” will be released sometime in 2018.

– IDW revealed at their “Stars of 2018” panel that they are doing comics based on the Disney film and TV show Big Hero 6, itself based on a Marvel comic. They also talked about the next “Back to the Future” comic, gave some specifics on the “Star Wars: Forces of Destiny” creative teams, and on when to expect more on “Transformers: Unicron” (around Free Comic Book Day).

– At their panel, Oni Press debuted a new logo that marks their 20th anniversary, which they will celebrate throughout 2018. They revealed Sarah Graley’s “Kim Reaper” will return this time next year, and that their offering on Local Comic Shop Day (November 18) will be a special editon of “Tales from Johnny Wander.” They also announced Megan Rose Gedris’s “Spectacle” has now become a webcomic, which starts October 11.

– At an Image panel, W. Maxwell Prince (“One Week in the Library”) announced he is writing a new series at the publisher called “Ice Cream Man.” Drawn by Martin Morazzo (“Snowfall”), the comic was described as being a series of twelve one-shots involving the mysterious title character, and was compared heavily to “The Sandman.” The first one-shot will be released in January.

– James Tynion IV and Rian Sygh’s “The Backstagers” will return for a 40-page Valentine’s Day special, which will feature bonus tales from other creators. Sygh’s main cover has not been released, but a solicitation and variant cover by Veronica Fish can viewed at CBR.

– A few years ago, Faith Erin Hicks (the upcoming “Avatar: The Last Airbender” series) and young adult novelist Rainbow Rowell started collaborating on a graphic novel. Now in a press release at Buzzfeed, Rowell revealed the comic is called “Pumpkinheads,” and is about two high school seniors named Deja and Josiah “working their last shift at the world’s greatest pumpkin patch.” She called it the “the zaniest and zippiest book I’ve worked on.”

– Fabien Nury and Thierry Robin’s French graphic novel “The Death of Stalin” recently became a critically-acclaimed film by Armando Iannucci (Veep, The Thick of It), so Titan will also be translating another historical book by them, “Death to the Tsar.” That will be published in January. Titan also held a Q&A at NYCC for Nury, who mentioned Russia is considering banning the film.

– There was a panel for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season five, which will have a two-hour premiere when it starts on December 1. The first twenty minutes of the episode were screened, the full spoilery details of which can be read here. It was confirmed the Kree will return, though sadly Clark Gregg indicated S.W.O.R.D. will not appear as Marvel do not have the screen rights to them.

– David Tennant’s Doctor Who co-star Catherine Tate has joined the cast of DuckTales as Scrooge McDuck’s nemesis, Magica de Spell. The role was originated by the late June Foray in the 1987 version.

– At Dynamite’s “Red Sonja” panel, Gail Simone mentioned she is involved on a video game about the character, which is being developed by F84 Games.
