– Bad Idea have announced two new comics. The first is entitled “Inebrio Horsefeathers In Scamper Juice,” by Tony Millionaire with colors by Jim Campbell, and has a back-up called ‘Playtime’ by Mike Carey and Jonathan Wayshak. The book follows the drunken adventures of sloppy platypus sailor, Inebrio Horsefeathers. The next book, “The Destroyer,” is written by Mae Catt with art by Alberto Ponticellio and colors by David Baron. It follows Erik Strominger, a physicist with a secret. After an accident, something powerful is growing within Erik, something created by the “radiance of a thousand suns” – and it has told him it will be free. Bad Idea announced that they would be sending copies to every destination store, as well as about 100+ more stores exclusive copies of “Bad Idea Obvious Promotional Device,” which gives readers a look at what’s in store. “Inebrio Horsefeathers In Scamper Juice” will debut November 22, while “The Destroyer” will be released on December 20, 2023.
– Last week’s Publishers Weekly children’s book rights report featured a few graphic deals. First up, Knopf has preempted a middle-grade graphic novel by Gina Nguyen, tentatively titled “Dust,” as well as a second book. “Dust” follows 11-year old Bao, who’s grieving his father’s death, when he finds a dust bunny that comes to life and feeds off his emotions. Publication of the first book is expected in 2026.
Holiday House have acquired “The Ghost Key,” by S.R. Appavu. The book follows a trans high school senior haunted by the grief of their sister’s death. They must fight the “ghost of their guilt in order to come to terms with themself to prevent tragedy.” Publication is set for 2026.
Mad Cave Studios/Maverick have bought “The Three Beasts,” from debut writer/illustrator Gillian Pascasio. This YA action adventure takes place in a fantastical Philippines-inspired land, and follows a trio of lesbian and trans friends as they face down a deadly hydra (and risk losing themselves) as they seek to succeed their ‘dragon-tamer fathers.’ Publication is set for 2025.
Lastly, Holiday House acquired Banned Together: Authors and Allies on the Fight for Readers’ Rights, edited by Ashley Hope Pérez, and illustrated by Debbie Fong. The YA anthology will explore book bans via prose and graphic fiction, poetry, non-fiction, and other genres, with contributions from Trung Lê Capecchi-Nguyễn, MariNaomi, Marieke Nijkamp, Isabel Quintero, and many more. It will be released in Spring 2025.

The list of Vault’s next wave of talent speaks for itself, so there’s not much for me to say except, keep up.” You can see the full list here.
