– After languishing in developmental hell on the feature film side of things for a few years now, it appears that “Y: The Last Man” might be moving over to television. FX, home of the upcoming “Southern Bastards” adaptation, will be developing the 60-issue series by Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra, overseen by Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson, both of Color Force Productions. In case you’ve never heard of/read one of the most important creator-owned series of the past twenty years, the book is about a disease that has wiped out all the male humans on Earth, save one. No timeframe has been set on when the series would film a pilot, nor who would write and direct said pilot.
– Marvel’s Netflix connection appears to be about to grow even deeper. Joining whispers that a Punisher series might eventually join the Network’s four series slate is the latest rumor, originating from the Collider Heroes podcast, that Moon Knight might get the same ‘back door pilot’ treatment that the Punisher is getting via the second season of Daredevil. On one hand, this fits right in with the Marvel Knights tone of the Netflix shows. On the other, no Moon Knight series has really sold in years, outside of a few issues here and there – is that a gamble worth taking?
– February 2018 doesn’t sound right around the corner, but that is when the Black Panther film is set to open, and it still has no director or writer attached to it. The most recent rumors have involved Ava DuVernay and F. Gary Gray, but today has revealed a different contender: director of Fruitvale Station and the upcoming Rocky sequel Creed, Ryan Cooger. I (or anyone, really) haven’t seen Creed, but the trailer makes me think it’ll make me cry in the theater, so sure, I support this decision.
– One of the best comic shops in the country, Zapp Comics of Wayne and Manalapan, NJ, has unveiled their exclusive “Dark Knight III” variant cover, done by the amazing Terry Dodson, featuring some of the ladies of the Dark Knight world – it’s a stunner, check it out!
– If you’re a regular Multiversity reader, you’ve noticed the ads for Double Take Comics over the past few months – well, you’ll be seeing much more of Double Take’s properties soon, as one of its initial ten comics, “Z-Men,” will be optioned into a feature film. What makes this so unusual is that “Z-Men,” like all the Double Take books, is set in the Night of the Living Dead universe, but since the film fell into the public domain some 20+ years ago, the rights to the setting and characters were available for use.
– Aftershock, a new publisher run in part by former DC/Marvel editor Mike Marts, has announced a new title from Brian Azzarrello and Juan Doe called “American Monster,” set to launch in January.
– And, finally, you can listen to a new, fan-made mixtape of the music of “Love and Rockets” and, frankly, why wouldn’t you?
