In case you missed it, we spoke with webcomic creator Michelle Czajkowski Fus about her ongoing comic “Ava’s Demons,” and with artist Liana Kangis on this week’s edition of the Multiversity Coffee Break.

– The world of Marvel’s upcoming crossover event ‘King in Black’ continues to expand in January, stretching to more corners of the Marvel universe with two additional tie-in miniseries. First up, Seanan McGuire, writer of the recently wrapped “Ghost-Spider” ongoing, will be joined by artist Flaviano Armentaro for “King in Black: Gwenom vs. Carnage.” With her symbiotic suit pulling her into the conflict, Gwen Stacy will step up to defend her new home universe against Carnage, one of the most dangerous symbiotes of all time. Then, “King in Black: Planet of the Symbiotes” features a variety of creative teams telling stories that delve deeper into Venom mythology. For issue #1, writer Frank Tieri and artist Danilo Beyruth will tell a tale that picks up on Tieri’s recent “Ravencroft” series, while writer Clay McLeod Chapman and artist Guiu Vilanova will detail the adventures of Scream and her fellow symbiotes from the Life Foundation. Both “King in Black: Gwenom vs. Carnage” #1 and “King in Black: Planet of the Symbiotes” #1 drop in January 2021, and you can find more about Marvel’s January ‘King in Black’ plans at their website.
– Via Broken Frontier, comic artist Veronika Muchitsch has won the publisher Myriad’s First Graphic Novel Competition. Her winning work was an excerpt from her story “Cyberman,” a nonfiction work about Ari, a blogger who streams online 24 hours a day and rarely leaves his apartment. “Beautiful story, beautiful artwork, very timely and prescient for where we are in the world today,” said London chef and writer Zoe Adjonyoh, one of the judges for the competition. “We just all fell in love with that one, and when you see it you will too, I’m sure.” As the winner of the competition, Muchitsch will have the opportunity to have the completed “Cyberman” published by Myriad. You can find out more about the competition — and see the shortlisted competitors — at Myriad’s website.
– The Dwayne Johnson-led Black Adam has picked up a new cast member. Via Deadline, TV veteran Sarah Shahi, recognizable for her main cast roles on The L Word, Life, and Person of Interest, has signed on for the Jaume Collet-Serra helmed feature, joining the recently announced Aldis Hodge and Noah Centineo as Hawkman and Atom Smasher, respectively. Plot details for the DC film are still under wraps, but Shahi will reportedly play a university professor and freedom fighter leading the resistance in Kahndaq. Black Adam is set to begin filming in early 2021, although it currently has no announced release date after Warner Bros. shuffled their release schedule due to COVID-19.
– Miles Morales is gracing the cover of this month’s Game Informer in honor of Insomniac Games’s upcoming Spider-Man: Miles Morales, featuring a double-page cover drawn by Morales’s co-creator Sara Pichelli. Pichelli’s cover matches a similar Game Informer cover for Insomniac’s Spider-Man, painted back in 2018 by Alex Ross. The Spider-Man: Miles Morales cover story went live yesterday, and Game Informer has an additional month’s worth of content featuring new details, images, and interviews rolling out in the weeks ahead of the game’s November 12 release.
– Epix’s Batman prequel series Pennyworth has added two cast members ahead of its season 2 debut. Via TVLine, Jessica de Gouw, recognizable to Arrowverse fans as Arrow’s Huntress, will join season 2 to play Melanie Troy, the wife of the titular Pennyworth’s former SAS Captain. Also joining the show is Simon Manyonda (His Dark Materials), who will follow in the footsteps of Morgan Freeman and Chris Chalk in playing the future Wayne Enterprises executive and Bruce Wayne confidante Lucius Fox. Season 2 of Pennyworth premieres on Epix on December 13.
– Finally, the patch notes for the Square Enix video game Marvel’s Avengers have a number of changes for the game, including two new bundles of content. The first is the SHIELD Substation Zero Outpost, a space that “offers new narrative, characters, and content,” and can be found in the Pacific Northwest on the War Table. The second are the Tachyon Rift Missions, once-per-day missions that allow players to earn Cosmic Gear. The patch goes live today — you can view the full patch notes here.
