In case you missed it, Marvel Comics announced “Hawkeye: Freefall” and “Tarot,” Kevin Feige was named Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Entertainment, and New Yorker cartoonist Dana Fradon has died aged 97. We also have an exclusive interview with Jeff Lemire and Tonic Zonjic on December’s “Skulldigger and Skeleton Boy.”

– A new venture, called Paper Movies, will see the return of Gil Kane and Archie Goodwin’s sci-fi spy comic “His Name is… Savage!,” a new female-led spin-off series, “Her Name is… Savage!,” and a sci-fi series called “ha.i.ley.” The “His Name is… Savage!” graphic novel will be written by Steven Grant with art by Jesús Antonio Hernández Portaveritas. In an interview with Deadline, Grant described the series as following in the original’s footsteps, and that it will have an “action-adventure format.” He also said that the modern incarnation of Savage is like “James Bond as a modern Point Blank.”

“Her Name is… Savage!” will be produced by the creative team of Katie Bachelor, Shane Riches and Jesús Antonio Hernández Portaveritas. Plot details about the series were not discussed. The third title announced, writer Shane Riches and artist Jared Barel’s “ha.i.ley,” will tell the story of a robot maid who tries to wipe out her owner’s family after having an affair with the married owner. Paper Movies was founded by Steven Grant, producer Shane Riches, and Jeff Davison. The “His Name is… Savage!” graphic novel will be launched in December.

– Writer/artist Rob Liefeld has announced that he is no longer going to be working at Marvel Comics for the “foreseeable future.” He declared that he is taking “a pause” on both covers and interior artwork for the publisher, with creator-owned work and the upcoming “G.I. Joe: Snake Eyes” going to be occupying him instead. This means that the previously announced “Deadpool: Badder Blood” will no longer be happening. This announcement about his exit comes just a week after he tweeted (and quickly deleted after) that “some shady practices over at Marvel” had led to him having a “good long talk with my attorney,” and then said that there were “good times” to come for Bob Iger, the Walt Disney Company Chairman/CEO.

– Jonathan Hickman has revealed there are plans for a series focused on Moira X. In response to a fan Q&A at AIPT, Hickman said that there was an unnamed writer who “agreed to do [the Moira X series] long before we were expecting them to commit,” and that it was this factor that led him to leave out the timeline of Moira’s sixth life so as to not “lock a lot of plot/story stuff in.” In “Powers of X” #2, Moira’s mutant ability was revealed to be reincarnation, and the issue depicted her past lives. A release schedule, or any other details regarding the creative team for the series, are yet to be revealed. The latest instalment of Hickman’s X-Men story is available today, with “X-Men” #1.

– Webcomics and anime distribution giants Webtoon and Crunchyroll, revealed they are in a partnership to develop, produce and distribute animated content based on Webtoon’s properties. Joanne Waage, the general manager of Crunchyroll, stated “We are extremely excited to be partnering with Webtoon,” and that “we can’t think of a better way to delight fans than by bringing these stories to life through animation.” Taylor Grant, senior VP of IP development at Webtoon, said “There is tremendous crossover appeal with our audiences, and exceptional creative synergy on the types of stories we want to tell.” At this point in time, there aren’t any details as to which of Webtoon’s properties will be the first to get the animated treatment.

– MGM/United Artists announced, via Deadline, that a sequel to The Addams Family is in development. The Addams Family 2 has been scheduled for release on October 22, 2021, following the first film’s opening four-day success of $35 million. The currently playing feature film is the fourth Addams Family feature film, all of which are adaptations of cartoonist Charles Addams’s panels that debuted in The New Yorker in 1938.

Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick gave an update on a potential Deadpool 3, stating that “Marvel has promised to continue to let us play in the R-rated Deadpool universe.” Additionally, the pair detailed that they have hope that Marvel will let them “veer into the MCU a little bit as well and play in that sandbox.” Ultimately, this depends on them and Ryan Reynolds finding the “right idea,” and that “once we collectively agree what idea that great idea is we’ll be off to the races.”
