– Kicking off, DC revealed the newest of its Hanna Barbera titles today in “Exit Stage Left: The Snagglepuss Chronicles,” a six-issue miniseries from Mark Russell and Mike Feehan. The series imagines the character as a closeted gay playwright in New York at the height of the Red Scare in 1953. The first preview for the series ran as back up of the “Suicide Squad/Banana Splits Special” back in March. “Exit Stage Left” will launch in January with covers by Ben Caldwell and Evan “Doc” Shaner.
– If you missed NYCC and the “Doomsday Clock” panel with Geoff Johns and Lev Grossman, fear not because DC All Access today premiered a video where Johns will walk you through the first 6 pages of issue #1, presented in the ashcan at that panel. The first six pages, which you can find here, reveal the beginning of this story takes place in 1992 and is a continuation of the “Watchmen” world. “Doomsday Clock” #1 from Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, and Brad Anderson drops in stores November 22nd.
– “Judge Dredd: The Blessed Earth” artist Daniel Irizarri lives and works in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico and is one of the 3.4 million American citizens on the island still recovering from Hurricane Maria last month. Irizarri was interviewed by Newsarama about his experience of the hurricane and what comic fans can do about the relief effort and to understand the situation in Puerto Rico. – If you were wondering how DC’s New Age of Heroes (formerly Dark Matter) covers would look, the Diamond Preview catalog has you covered. Get it, covered. The series were all revealed to have no variant covers and to launch with these vertical fold out covers for every issue. It appears the covers are in three parts, the middle being the main part of the cover and the top and bottom coming up outward from the middle. You can check out a diagram here.
– Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige feinted when asked why Sif, played by Jaimie Alexander in the MCU, was not going to appear in Thor: Ragnarok despite being in the first two Thor movies and appearing on an episode of Agents of SHIELD. Feige stated, “You’re the second person to ask me that question today, and I will quote Maz Kanada from Star Wars: The Force Awakens: ‘That is a good question for another time.’ Is that the quote? It’s pretty close to that.” Ragnarok hits theaters November 3rd.
– In more Marvel movie news, another actor is swarming Sony’s Tom Hardy helmed Venom movie. HBO’s Veep star Reid Scott, who plays Dan Egan the Vice President’s Deputy Director of Communications. Sony has made clear that Spider-Man will not appear in all of these spinoff movies, which Venom is the first of. Riz Ahmed, Michelle Williams, and Jenny Slate are also on board, with Ruben Fleischer directing the film which premieres October 5, 2018.
– In more Marvel news, the company is opposing a trademark for a new apple cider from Aamodt’s Apple Farm in Minnesota called Thor’s Apple Cider. According to Aamodt’s website the name is from Thor Aamodt the founder of the apple farm, and has no relation to the Norse god and comic book character published by the company. I do not look forward to the day corporations can trademark gods…
– The CW has released new promotional art for the upcoming CW Seed digital show Freedom Fighters: The Ray debuting in December and spinning out of this year’s Arrowverse crossover “Crisis on Earth-X.” The new poster features The Ray alongside other Freedom Fighters from Earth-X such as Black Condor, Phantom Lady and Red Tornado. Russel Tovey who voices The Ray will appear as the character in live-action during the upcoming crossover.
– Hulu’s adaptation of the IDW comic “Locke & Key” has added another actor in Owen Teague who will play Sam Lesser, an adolescent who kills his father who goes on to murder the father of the Locke family. Teague will be reuniting with It stars Jackson Robert Scott and Megan Charpentier for the pilot which is being directed by It director Andy Muschetti. There’s no word yet on a release date for the series.
– J. Scott Campbell shared on Twitter a new interior page for his upcoming “Gen 13” story which is a part of the “Wildstorm: A Celebration of 25 Years” Hardcover which will be released on October 25th. “Gen 13” launched at Wildstorm in 1994 and was co-created by Campbell, Jim Lee and Brandon Choi and follows a group of teens who go on the run after taking part in a secret government project and developing powers.
