– Dark Horse unveiled “Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora — So’lek’s Journey. Based on the upcoming Ubisoft video game, itself based on the James Cameron film franchise, the six-issue miniseries follows So’lek, a Na’vi looking towards Eywa for healing. The book will feature work from Ray Fawkes, Gabriel Guzmán, Michael Atiyeh, and Michael Heisler, and introduce readers to the clans and characters of the upcoming open world title, while expanding on the origins of one of the most critical characters. Issue #1 (of 6) is due out February 28, 2024, while the game itself releases on December 7.

– Titan Comics has announced “Dark Souls: The Willowed King.” Written by George Mann, with art from Maan House, the four-part miniseries will focus on a recently revived Unkindled as he unites three night warriors, and seeks out the title of Cinder Lord. The series is based on the video game series of the same name, and issue #1 should be out on January 31, 2024. It will feature covers from Stephanie Hans, Maan House, Alan Quah, and more.

– A mysterious character will enter the Morphin Grid to keep the infectious Dark Specter from spreading in “Power Rangers Unlimited: The Morphin Masters” #1. The new one-shot from Hasbro and BOOM! Studios will pick up immediately following “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers” #116 and tie into ‘The Darkest Hour.’ Writer Ryan Parrott returns, joined by co-writer Rachel Wagner. Daniel Bayliss handles art, with Arthur Hesli and Ed Dukeshire on colors and letters respectively. It’s due out January 31, 2024.

– Marvel Comics revealed “Marvel’s Voices: Legends,” a new one-shot for Black History Month releasing on January 31. It will feature four stories, including a Patriot (Elijah Bradley) segment by writer David F. Walker and artist Eder Messias; a Daughters of the Dragon story written by Justina Ireland, intended to mark the 50th anniversary of Misty Knight’s first appearance (“Marvel Premiere” #21, released December 24, 1974); and a Deathlok story by Ezra Claytan Daniels (in his Marvel Comics debut) and Sean Damien Hill. The fourth will be announced at a later date.

– Just ahead of season one’s finale, Amazon Prime Video has renewed The Boys spin-off Gen V for a second season. The series is set at Godolkin University, a school for “supes.” The official synopsis teases, “When the group of young supes discover that something bigger and sinister is going on at school, they’re put to the test: Will they be the heroes or the villains of their stories?” The first season finale will begin streaming on November 3.

– Netflix’s live-action One Piece adaptation has inspired a set of premium cards for the “One Piece” card game. The nine special edition cards are rereleases of previously available ones, now featuring the cast of the Netflix series. These include Iñaki Godoy (Monkey D. Luffy), Mackenyu (Roronoa Zoro), and Emily Rudd (Nami). They will be available this February in Japan, before getting a US release the following April.

– Jay Oliva will direct The White Tower, a 3D animated feature for YA audiences, based on Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. The movie will follow a young girl with special powers, who must visit the title structure to master them and protect her village from the great evil invading it. It is a prequel to the events in the books, which were recently adapted into an Amazon Prime Video series. Rick Selvage and Larry Mondragon of iwot are producing the film, with Zack Stentz of Electric Brain Entertainment writing and also producing. Quebec’s Squeeze Animation Studios will oversee production services.

– Finally, the newly released book MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios has shed more light on Victoria Alonso’s firing from the company earlier this year. According to an excerpt shared by The Direct and other outlets, Alonso’s criticism of former Disney CEO Bob Chapek over his handling of Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill broke one of Kevin Feige’s “cardinal rules” (don’t speak out publicly against the company), and he “reportedly cautioned her to ‘keep her head down’ and ‘do the work,'” while suggesting “she had outgrown her role at Marvel.” Alonso also allegedly clashed with the studio over the decision to censor LGBTQ pride symbols from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in foreign markets, which she “regarded as a betrayal.” Feige reportedly did not intervene when Alonso was fired this year, over what was officially a breach of contract to produce Argentina, 1985 at Amazon.
