– Archie Comics are sending the Riverdale crew into a post-apocalyptic hellscape with its newest one-shot. “Archie vs. the World” sees the title teenager traveling a world inspired by Mad Max: Fury Road and “Fist of the North Star” in his old jalopy. The “Savage Hearts” team of Aubrey Sitterson and Jed Dougherty, who also created the ‘Jughead the Burgarian’ segment of “The Best Archie Comic Ever,” will handle creative duties on the title, due out January 18, 2023.

– BOOM! Studios announced “Dune: House Harkonnen,” a four-issue adaptation of the 2000 novel of the same name. Authors Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson will adapt their book with artist Michael Shelfer (“Domino”), colorist Patricio Delpeche, and letterer Ed Dukeshire, which (as the title suggests) explores the early years of Baron Harkonnen’s rivalry with House Atreides. It is the second book in the Prelude to Dune trilogy, after Dune: House Atreides, which was adapted into a comic in 2020. “House Harkonnen” #1 releases January 2023.

– Gene Luen Yang’s run on “Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings” will end this January, with the 40 page one-shot “Shang-Chi: Master of the Ten Rings.” Michael YG will provide art for the book, with covers from Jim Cheung and Dike Ruan. The story will see Shang-Chi travel through time, meeting his evil father as a young man. Gene Luen Yang’s “Shang-Chi” run began in 2020, and has consisted of a miniseries and two ongoings, the second of which, “Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings,” began this summer.

– Just ahead of DC’s January 2023 solicitations, set to drop today at 12pm ET, the publisher has revealed cover art and synopses for the four ‘Lazarus Planet‘ one-shots dropping in January: January 10’s “Lazarus Planet: Alpha” #1 (written by Mark Waid and Gene Luen Yang; art by Riccardo Federici, Billy Tan, and more) will see Damian Wayne gather a team to combat the new threat, and co-star the Monkey Prince.

“Lazarus Planet: Assault on Krypton” #1, following on the 17th (written by Nicole Maines, C.S. Pacat, Frank Barbiere, and Leah Williams; art from Skylar Patridge, Godlewski, Sami Basri, and Marguerite Sauvage) will present a series of vignettes of the characters altered by the eruption. Another series of vignettes hits shelves on the 24th, “Lazarus Planet: We Once Were Gods” #1 (writers Francis Manapul, Dan Watters, Phillip Kennedy Johnson, and Josie Campbell; artists Manapul, Max Dunbar, Jack Herbert, and Caitlin Yarsky) will show the effects of the eruption on the fantastical locations in the DC Universe, such as Themyscira and the Rock of Eternity.

The last of the one-shots to drop that month, “Lazarus Planet: Legends Reborn” #1 on the 31st (writers Alex Segura, Greg Pak, Alex Paknadel, and Dennis Culver; artists Clayton Henry, Chris Mitten, Minkyu Jung, and Jesus Merino) will show the effects of the eruption on Gotham City, as new hero City Boy tries to commune with it. Check out our original coverage from earlier this month.

– DC will also celebrate Black creators with a new one-shot due out this January. “DC Power: A Celebration” #1 will feature stories written by Chuck Brown, Morgan Hampton, Stephanie William, Evan Narcisse, and others. Valentine De Landro, Clayton Henry, and more will provide art. The anthology book will contain stories about Black heroes such as Cyborg, John Stewart, Aqualad, Kid Flash, Batwing, Vixen, and Amazing-Man. The book will also feature work from graduates from DC’s 2021 Milestone Initiative.

Burn Notice star Jeffrey Donovan will star in R.I.P.D. 2: Rise of the Damned, coming to home video and Netflix on November 15. Donovan will portrays Pulsipher, played by Jeff Bridges in the original. This new installment will explore Pulsipher’s origins in the Old West. You can watch the trailer here.

– Little, Brown Books for Young Readers has announced a new graphic novel imprint, LB Ink. LBYR’s Editorial Director, Graphic Publishing (and former Lion Forge/Oni Press editor) Andrea Colvin will oversee the imprint, with the first LB Ink books available in 2023. Colvin’s focus for the line has been on “authentic and relatable” stories with contemporary themes and voices, such as mass shooting survivor Kindra Neely’s memoir “Numb to This,” and Tori Sharp’s family drama “Let’s Pretend.”

– Geoff Johns and Gary Frank’s Image Comics series “Geiger” has been optioned for TV by Paramount Television Studios. Johns will write the pilot, serve as showrunner, and executive produce alongside Frank, and Dear White People creator Justin Simien, among others. Set in a post-apocalyptic 2050, “Geiger” follows Tariq Geiger, a radioactive family man who guards the fallout shelter protecting his family. The series ran in 2021, and was the first installment in Johns and Frank’s Unnamed Universe, which also includes “Junkyard Joe.”

– Finally, Netflix and Duffer Brother-owned production company Upside Down have hired Halia Abdel-Meguid to write and executive produce the live-action Death Note series. Abdel-Meguid had previously worked with Upside Down on their adaptation of Stephen King and Peter Straub’s novel The Talisman. She is also a fan of the original manga and anime, having previously lived in Tokyo.
