Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.
– A long time ago, when the possibilities of a DC Cinematic future existed before the rise of Zac Snyder, Angela Bassett played Amanda Waller in Green Lantern. Sure, the movie sucked, but she was pretty good because, hey, she’s Angela Bassett so it would make sense that Marvel would snap her up to star in Black Panther as T’Challa’s mother. That’s going to be interesting to see.
– Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney/ABC Television Group president Ben Sherwood confirmed that Marvel and ABC’s eight episode Inhuman series does not, in fact, replace the feature film that’s been planned since the announcement of Phase Three of the MCU. Nor, weirdly enough, is it described as a spinoff of Agents of SHIELD. What is it, then? Hell if I know.
– Speaking of Inhumans, Newsarama reports that Al Ewing and Jonboy Meyers will exploring the royalty of the Inhuman society in a series aptly named “Royals”.
– Remember The Dark Crystal? The Jim Henson feature that most people ignore in favour of Labyrinth because it doesn’t have David Bowie’s crotch in it? Well, it’s coming back… in the form of a comic. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported that BOOM! Studios will publish a 12-issue series written by Si Spurrier, adapted from an unproduced screenplay, with art from Kelly and Nicole Matthews and titled “The Power Of The Dark Crystal”. Keep an eye out for this one.
– Every so often, names of actors get floated around names of comic book characters either because they seem a generally good fit or because they’re a fan trying to get the word out about the interest. This is maybe the strangest one I’ve come across. Hamilton‘ Lin-Manuel Miranda has put his name forward… for Marvel’s Carnage. Yeah, Cletus Kassidy. The redneck serial killer take over by a rampaging alien symbiote. I mean, at the very least, it would be interesting, right?
