– A third volume of the Batman: The Animated Series comic series, “Batman: The Adventures Continue” is set to arrive in January, with writers Alan Burnett and Paul Dini, and artist Jordan Gibson being the creative team behind it. “Batman: The Adventures Continue Season Three” will see Batman in a race against time trying to work out which of his enemies is next to make a move against the now-Blackgate Penitentiary inmate, the Muscle. Kevin Nowlan will provide cover art for each issue of the seven-part series. “Batman: The Adventures Continue Season Three” #1 is currently scheduled for publication on January 10. The comic was announced as part of DC’s January 2023 solicitations, which we’ll have more on in our Soliciting Multiversity column.

– Oni Press will be launching an new ongoing “Rick and Morty” series by writer Alex Firer, rotating artists Fred C. Stresing and Marc Ellerby, colorist Andrew Dalhouse, and letterer Crank!, Stresing revealed. The solicitation for the first issue of the series teases that Mr. Goldenfold will be leading Morty on the search for “the perfect world — a world of pure mathematics,” whilst Rick will be taking Morty on the search for a “space milkshake,” with Goldenfold’s adventures set to be “interesting in that weird, can’t-look-away sense.” Stresing and Ellerby will be providing the artwork for alternating 3-issue tenures. “Rick and Morty” #1 is scheduled for release on January 25.

– The story of Butcher Jace Boucher will continue in the upcoming “House of Slaughter” #11, with writer Tate Brombal returning to the title, bringing along artist Antonio Fuso with him, AIPT revealed. Colorist Miquel Muerto and letterer AndWorld Design round out the creative team on the issue. “House of Slaughter” is a spin-off of “Something is Killing the Children,” which explores the latter series’s villain, Aaron; Jace was introduced as Aaron’s teenage love. “House of Slaughter” #11 will see Jace returning to his home city of New Orleans to fight against “his overwhelming rage and guilt” by protecting the orphans he is responsible for. “House of Slaughter” #11 is scheduled for release in January 2023.

– Avery Hill Publishing unveiled their three-title lineup for Spring 2023:

  • The first title will be “Pet Peeves” by Nicole Goux. The graphic novel will be a horror story that follows an aspiring musician named Bobbie, who sees all of her time being spent working in a bar, with her cute dog being her sole occupying force outside of work. However, Bobbie’s cute dog is not as benevolent as it seems, with the description stating “her dog is going to do everything he can to keep [the status quo].”
  • K. Briggs’s Shakespearean adaptation “Macbeth” is set to retell the tale of the titular character’s dark ascendancy to the throne and the madness that follows. The publisher states that Briggs’s adaptation is “influenced by the witches and magic of Macbeth.”
  • The third title announced in the lineup will be “Big Ugly” by Ellice Weaver. It will follow a woman named Mel trapped in a monotonous cycle of working, which is upheaved when she allows her brother to come and live with her, only for their childhood rivalry to be reignited, along with the sudden return of the weight of her family’s expectations of her.
  • “Pet Peeves” is set for release on May 23 in the UK and May 25 in the US; “Big Ugly” follows on June 20 and June 22 in the UK and the US, respectively; with “Macbeth” closing out the spring title releases on July 25 in the UK, and July 27 in the US. You can check out the covers and a preview of each graphic novel here.

    – There were five graphic novel deals reported on by Publishers Weekly, including Silver Sprocket’s acquisition of “Charger County” by Cathy G. Johnson, and Little Bee/Yellow Jacket’s deal for “Hour of Need: The Daring Escape of the Danish Jews During World War II,” by writer Ralph Shayne and artist Tatiana Goldberg. “Charger County” will follow the members of the Charger County High drama club, all rebellious seniors except for freshman Liz, as they make their own sequel to one of their favorite action films in response to the cancellation of their spring musical. Problems with their response arise because “the goofy violence of their own film echoes the harm teenage girls face in real life.”

Shayne and Goldberg’s “Hour of Need” is being developed with the Illinois Holocaust Museum & Education Center. The graphic novel is set to highlight the untold story from the Second World War of the efforts to evacuate Danish Jews from Denmark to Sweden in small fishing boats; the evacuations were carried out by the occupied Danish population, and the Danish resistance. “Hour of Need” will focus on one fictional Danish family’s involvement in the evacuations. “Hour of Need” is currently scheduled for the Summer of 2023, with “Charger County” arriving in 2025.

    – A partnership between Penguin Workshop, and the Steph Curry and Erick Peyton-founded Unanimous Media, will see the publication of four entries in a graphic novel series called “Steph Curry Presents!: Sports Superheroes.” The series will be written by Rich Korson and Josh Bycel, with art by Damion Scott with the first entry in the series, which is set to focus on Curry’s career. Curry and Peyton detailed in a statement that they hope “[the series] not only instills excitement and grows [kids’] love for reading, but also inspires them to reach for the stars and accomplish their dreams.” Hints as to the other athletes that may be the subject of later entries were not given. The first book in the “Steph Curry Presents!: Sports Superheroes” series is set for publication in the Fall of 2024.

    – Finally, the upcoming film adaptation of “Prophet” by Studio 8 found a new writer in the form of Kurt Johnstad (300). Johnstad takes over from original script writer, Marc Guggenheim. Based on Rob Liefeld’s character, the film will star Jake Gyllenhaal as Prophet, a volunteer in a Second World War German experiment to help provide for his family, only to be buried during a bombing. The film will then follow Prophet as he wakes up in 1965, and tries to reconnect with his resentful daughter, while evading the KGB, who seek to harness his blood and create a new wave of super-soldiers. Sam Hargrave is set to direct. A release date for Prophet has not yet been revealed.
