– “Nonplayer” #1 was one of the most acclaimed comics of 2011, and to say that the path forward for the seven issue series has been slow and circuitous would be an understatement. For the second time, the book has been optioned for a film adaptation, despite only two issues being released in 6+ years. Eric Pearson (Thor: Ragnarok, Agent Carter) will be handling the screenplay for Legendary Pictures. No release date has been specified, though it is likely that the film will be out before the final 5 issues of the series.
– The Dark Horse OGN “Polar: Came With the Cold” is also being adapted into a film. The book, by Victor Santos, will be adapted by screenwriter Jayson Rothwell and director Jonas Åkerlund, with Mads Mikkelson attached to star. Dark Horse founder Mike Richardson is among the producers.
– Cartoonist Brian Fies (“Mom’s Cancer”) recently lost his home to the horrific Californian wild fires. He turned the harrowing experience into a comic, “A Fire Story.” The work is raw, emotional, and quite moving.
– AMC has renewed Preacher for a third season. The show, which wrapped its second season last month, will return in 2018.
– In addition to playing one of the sons of Thanos, motion capture actor Terry Notary (Kong: Skull Island) confirmed that he will be providing the motion capture for teenaged Groot in Avengers: Infinity War. The film, set to include more heroes than child Brian could ever have imaged in one film, opens in May of 2018.
– Jeff Goldblum will be reprising his Thor: Ragnarok role as the Grandmaster in an upcoming Thor short featuring Darryl, Odinson’s put upon roommate.
– A new trailer for the Marvel/Hulu Runaways series dropped today. The series debuts November 21st.
– Two parts of the comics grading world came together today, with Beckett Media, a longtime publisher of price guides, acquired CBCS, a comics grading service.
– And, finally, if you’re a Funko Pop and a “Saga” fan, today is your lucky day.
