– Image Comics released a teaser for an upcoming horror project by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino called “The Bone Orchard: Mythos.” Details about the project are to be expected to be revealed in the “next weeks,” with Sorrentino only detailing that it isn’t a miniseries and is instead a “much (much!) bigger and complex project.” Lemire and Sorrentino have collaborated on multiple projects together, such as “Green Arrow” and “Gideon Falls,” with their most recent series, “Primordial,” launching back in September. “The Bone Ochard: Mythos” will begin next year. You can check out a video teaser here.

– Disney unveiled comic book covers for each episode of the recently released Disney+ series, Just Beyond. The collection features artwork from Irene Flores (“Just Beyond: Monstrosity”), Christian Ward (“ODY-C”), Jorge Corona (“Middlewest”), and more. Each cover features logo placement and issue numbers to mimic the traditional comic book style, and features each episode’s title too. Just Beyond is an anthology series based on R.L. Stine’s graphic novel series of the same name. Just Beyond is available to stream on Disney+ now, whilst the series’s comic book covers can be found here.

– Marvel Comics have adjusted their production schedule for books set for release between November and February, Newsarama detailed. The cause for the production adjustment is that the printing companies that Marvel has contracts with are having scheduling and logistical issues; many issues, collections, and posters have been delayed as a result, including big series relaunches like “Black Panther” and “Hulk.” You can see the full list of affected titles with their old and new release dates here.

In similar news, BOOM! Studios released an updated edition of their list of releases for November and December, stating that they have “worked hard with our print partners, freight forwarders, and distributors to ensure a release schedule that can be counted on.” The publisher did note however that “new unanticipated” challenges within the supply chain may result in further scheduling disruptions. The updated list is available at BOOM!’s website.

Publishers Weekly reported on two graphic novel deals, and one comic-related picture book biography deal this week:

  • Candlewick/MIT Kids made a two-book deal for Jasmine Florentine’s “The Adventures of Maker Girl and Professor Smarts,” which will see Yaya and Chuy, two twelve-year-old best friends, combating supervillains with physics and engineering instead of superpowers. The two graphic novels are scheduled for release in successive springs: 2024 and 2025.
  • Writer Kirsten W. Larson and artist Barbara McClintock’s “The Light of Resistance” had its worldwide rights acquired by Roaring Brook Press. The middle-grade graphic novel will tell the story of Rose Valland, the art historian who saved over 60,000 works of art during the Second World War. “The Light of Resistance” is set for publication in Spring 2023.
  • Page Street Kids bought worldwide rights to the upcoming Along Came a Radioactive Spider: Strange Steve Ditko and the Creation of Spider-Man, by writer Annie Hunter Eriksen and artist Lee Gatlin. The picture book biography will shed light on Ditko’s role in the real-world origins of Spider-Man. Along Came A Radioactive Spider is set to be published in Spring 2023.
  • – Cartoonist Maia Kobabe published an illustrated op-ed in The Washington Post advocating for queer books to be left “on the library shelves.” In the op-ed, Kobabe (who is non-binary and uses Spivak pronouns) details discovering that eir graphic novel, “Gender Queer: A Memoir,” had been banned by the school board in Fairfax County after parents accused the book of promoting pedophilia and dismissed it as pornographic. The memoir was removed from libraries in various states in the weeks that followed. Kobabe details how growing up, e could only find information or stories about transgender people in media, particularly books, and that “Queer youth are often forced to look outside their own homes, and outside the education system, to find information on who they are.” E concludes “removing or restricting queer books in libraries and schools is like cutting a lifeline for queer youth.” You can read the full op-ed here.

    – Jenna Dewan, who portrayed Lucy Lane in the first season of The CW (then CBS)’s Supergirl, will be reprising her role for season two of The CW’s Superman & Lois, THR reported. The number of appearances that Dewan will make as part of her reprisal has not been disclosed; she is currently in a recurring role on The Rookie. Superman & Lois stars actors Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as one of the comics industry’s most famous couples, as they balance superheroics and work whilst trying to raise their two sons, Jonathan and Jordan Kent (Jordan Elsass and Alex Garfin). A premiere date for season two of Superman & Lois has yet to be revealed.

    – Finally, Marvel Entertainment and Skydance New Media are teaming up for a new video game. Details remain tightly under wraps at this time, with the game only being described as a “narrative-driven, blockbuster action-adventure game, featuring a completely original story and take on the Marvel Universe.” The announcement was made by Amy Hennig (Uncharted), the President of Skydance New Media. This is the latest Marvel game to be announced, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine both currently in development at Insomniac Games, and comes hot on the heels of the release of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy by Eidos-Montréal last week.
