Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.
– Wizard World Inc. – the company responsible for the Wizard World Chicago, Wizard World East, and many other comic conventions – may not be in business much longer. This month’s quarterly reports for the company once again show losses for this and last year, in the range of a couple million dollars. This coupled with a suit by the Shamus family, who after leaving Wizard World decided to open up a competing convention company of there own, does not bode well for the company. Who knows, maybe bringing back the magazine will save them.
– Fear the Walking Dead has cast another actor as a season regular for its coming fourth season. Jenna Elfman (Dharma & Greg, 1600 Penn) has been cast alongside fellow new series regular Garret Dillanhunt (Raising Hope, Deadwood) for the new season of the show. After [SPOILER ALERT] killing of two of their leads last season and leaving the rest of the series casts fate up in the air it’s anyones guess as to who exactly will be sticking around for next season even past episode one.
– Among this month’s Humble Bundle’s is a collection of Dynamite’s “James Bond” comic books to help raise money for the nonprofit Doctors Without Borders. Among the books is a special extended first peek at the upcoming graphic novel adaptation of Ian Flemming’s first Bond book “Casino Royale.” The book is written by Van Jensen (“Green Lantern,” “Cryptocracy”) and art provided by Dennis Calero (“X-Factor,” “X-Men Noir”) and has already been delayed three times so this is a chance for everyone to finally get a look at Dynamite’s adaptation. The book is available for $15 on Humble bundle along with a hefty helping of great James Bond comics; however, if you are able to give more than $15 we highly recommend it.
– We are living in a new age and some of us are a little slow to the learning process, but thankfully the people at Oni Press have created a handy dandy new guide to “They/Them Pronouns.” The new comic is written by Archie Bongiovanni and Tristan Jimerson, with art by Archie Bongiovanni, and features a pair of friends, one a cisgendered guy named Tristan and the other a genderqueer cartoonist, teaching and learning the lexicon and some tips and tricks for cisgender and non-binary folk alike. “They/Them Pronouns” hits comic book shelves June 13, 2018.
– Comedian Tiffany Haddish (Girls Trip, The Carmichael Show) has been cast in the adaptation of the Vertigo series “The Kitchen” being produced by New Line Cinema. The plot for “The Kitchen” revolves around the mob wives who take over their husbands business after they are arrested in the 1970s, the series was written by Ollie Masters (“Snow Blind,” “Sons of Anarchy Redwood Originals”) with art by Ming Doyle (“Quantum and Woody,” “America”). The film will also be the directorial debut of screenwriter Andrea Berlof (Straight Outta Compton, Sleepless).
– Gerard Way (“Umbrella Academy,” “Doom Patrol”)’s DC imprint, Young Animal, has rolled out it’s first look at their spring event “Milk Wars.” The early look features stellar covers by Frank Quietly (“The Authority,” “All-Star Superman”) of Batman, Wonder Woman and Superman in Norman Rockwellian costumes along with some pages by artist ACO (“Midnighter,” “Constantine”). The first of the one-shot specials “JLA/Doom Patrol Special” comes out January 31 with a new special coming out every week of February.
