In case you missed it, DC Comics announced plans for Batman’s 80th anniversary and “Detective Comics” issue #1000, AfterShock revealed “Oberon,” BOOM! announced “Ronin Island,” ”Daredevil” will return with a new creative team this February, and MIT Press announced YA graphic novel “The Curie Society.” Plus we have an exclusive look at “Marvel Knights 20th” #2.

Dark Horse Comics

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Dark Horse has named March 23, 2019 as “Hellboy Day,” celebrating 25 years of Mike Mignola’s “Hellboy” universe. Dark Horse will release a 25th anniversary addition of “Hellboy: Seed of Destruction” #1, that will feature a new cover by Mignola and longtime collaborator and colorist Dave Stewart. Additionally Dark Horse will release special “Hellboy Day” promotional material which includes a tattoo sheet, a Right Hand of Doom bookmark, a new version of the Mignolaverse timeline poster, and much more. Mignola commented on the 25th anniversary stating, “I’m grateful to the writers, artists, colorists and letterers who have joined me in telling Hellboy stories for all these years. And of course so grateful to the fans.” These will be followed by the new Hellboy movie starring David Harbour, Ian McShane and Milla Jovovich, and directed by Neil Marshall, which will hit theaters April 12, 2019.

– In honor of the late Stan Lee, select Marvel Comics titles from December 19th to January 9th will pay tribute to Lee’s life and career. Some of the books include “Amazing Spider-Man” #12, “Captain America” #6, “Exiles” #11, “Shuri” #3, “Thor” #8 and “Fantastic Four” #5: Bleeding Cool has the full list here.

– Marvel have canceled the Star Wars mini-series “Shadow of Vader,” written by Chuck Wendig. Wendig had written the first three issues before being fired. It is believed that he was fired over his tweets in regards to the appointment of Supreme Court Justice, Brett Kavanaugh. The series was originally announced at October’s New York Comic Con, but after Wendig’s firing, it went unlisted in January’s solicitations, and Marvel have now officially informed retailers the series will not be published.

– In more Marvel news, Marvel have unveiled more information on the new “Uncanny X-Men” series, which from February will be written by Matthew Rosenberg and drawn by Salvador Larroca. Issue #12 will release this February and will be called ‘The Last X-Men.’ Issue #12’s cover features adult Cyclops and Wolverine reunited, and Rosenberg, who is currently co-writing the series’ initial ten-issue arc, said “this is [their] fight to save mutantkind, the fight to restore their legacy, and this is the fight for their lives, this is forever.”

– Following the success of Disneyland California’s Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, Disney have announced that Walt Disney World, Orlando, will be getting their own Guardians of the Galaxy roller coaster. Disney Chairman Bob Chapek has revealed some details of the upcoming ride, stating “this will be a coaster unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before,” explaining “instead of whizzing by the action, you’ll be fully immersed in the story from the minute you launch.” Disney has set a goal for launch at some point in 2021.

– Marvel Future Fight moblie game are adding another original character, going by the name Crescent & Lo. The new hero is a young Koran girl called Dan Bi, who loves Taekwondo. When she puts on a mask she then produces an avatar called Lo, they share a unique bond and make one incredible superhero team. Bill Roseman, Marvel’s Executive Creative Director stated that “inspired by the legendary Stan Lee, who we dedicate the creation of Crescent and Lo to, we hope to continue the mighty Marvel tradition of putting the human in the superhuman and thus connect with our worldwide family.”

DC Comics have canceled the publishing of the “Detective Comics Before Batman” omnibus, as well as the hardcover editions of Alex Ross and Paul Dini’s “Captain Marvel” and “Wonder Woman” graphic novels. There was no reason given at this time.

Lion Forge’s Director of Marketing, Syndee Barwick has been promoted to Vice President of her department, which she has been a part of since 2016. Lion Forge founder David Steward II commented “Syndee Barwick is perhaps one of the finest examples of how decades of industry experience have helped to quickly raise the profile of our organization from industry upstart to a leader in [the] comics industry.” He added, “with an amazing team, coworkers, leadership, talent and colleagues within the industry, I’m excited to bring our books and talent to even more people.”

– Finally in some uplifting news, according to The San Francisco Chronicle, 10-year-old Miles Scott is cancer free. Five years ago, Scott became known as Batkid, thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, who in collaboraton with San Francisco mayor Ed Lee, helped him fulfil his dream of becoming Batman for a day. Miles’s Leukemia is now in remission and he only sees doctors once a year. Scott’s mother, Natalie said “this wish meant closure for our family and an end to over three years of putting toxic drugs in our son’s body.”
