In case you missed it, Image Comics have announced that the “Radiant Black” Universe is expanding with a new one-shot, “Supermassive” and two new series, “Rogue Sun” and “Inferno Girl Red.” Dark Horse Comics have also announced “Manor Black: Fire in the Blood,” and DC revealed “Suicide Squad: Blaze.”
– Via ICv2, Ablaze Publishing announced they are releasing a trio of titles by the famed Italian creator, Zerocalcare, in print and digitally. Zerocalcare is the pen name of Michele Rech, one of Italy’s best-selling graphic novel artists. “Forget My Name,” will be released first on March 9, 2022, and is “a poignant story of the passing of the creator’s grandmother, with whom he was very close.” Other planned releases include “Tentacles At My Throat” and “The Armadillo Prophecy,” both slated for 2022. Zerocalcare is the pen name of Michele Rech, one of Italy’s best-selling graphic novel artists. His comics blog Zerocalcare.it, is one of Italy’s most read comics destinations. His animated series, Tear Along the Dotted Line, is available on Netflix from today.
– Via Newsarama, IDW have announced “Transformers: War’s End,” written by Brian Ruckley with art by Jack Lawrence. “Transformers: War’s End” sees the return of Exarchon, chief instigator of the War of the Threefold Spark, who seeks revenge with his former generals Shockwave and Skywarp. “Transformers: War’s End” is described by IDW editor David Mariotte as the weaving together of the Transformers’ past, present, and future that he, Ruckley, and IDW have been building to since 2019. “Transformers: War’s End” is set in the same era of continuity as the main ongoing Transformers comic book series, and will run side-by-side with it beginning in February 2022.
– Via The Beat, AfterShock Comics have announced “Lollipop Kids” is the latest addition to the publisher’s Seismic Press imprint of young reader graphic novels. Written by the father-and-son team of Adam and Aidan Glass, with art by Diego Yapur, colors by DC Alonso, letters by Sal Cipriano, and a cover by Juan Doe, the book reveals the secret history of New York’s Central Park as a long-hidden prison for monsters. The new Seismic Press edition of the collection will come in the YA-friendly 6.5″ x 9.5″ size. The new edition of “Lollipop Kids” is due out in comic shops on February 9, 2022.
– Via Deadline, publisher DC Thomson and Beano Studios launched Emanata Studios, a division which will develop the UK’s largest comic archive for film and TV. They have already struck deals with the likes of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s Westbrook Studios, and Jerry Bruckheimer TV: Emanata and Westbrook Studios are developing a high-concept drama based on the very first British comic book superhero, The Amazing Mr X, while Jerry Bruckheimer TV and CBS Studios have come on board a live-action dramedy based on “Dennis the Menace.” The move is the first time that Dundee-based DC Thomson is opening up its entire comic archive for development.
– Via Geektown, The BBC announced Superman & Lois will premiere on BBC One and iPlayer this December. “Superman & Lois is an ambitious and involving new superhero series – one we are sure will intrigue and excite not just existing fans, but BBC viewers of all ages,” commented Sue Deeks, BBC Head of Programme Acquisition. Superman & Lois season 1 premieres Saturday, 4th December 2021, at 5.40pm on BBC One, with all episodes available on iPlayer from the same date. Meanwhile Superman & Lois season 2 will air on The CW from Tuesday, January 11 at the new time of 8:00 p.m. ET.
– Deadline reports that Star Trek: Discovery will no longer stream on Netflix, as ViacomCBS closed a deal to bring the global streaming rights home to Paramount+. The UK, Germany, Ireland, Austria and Switzerland will be among the first markets to stream Discovery on Paramount+, when the platform becomes available in those countries next year. The news was met with an overwhelmingly negative reaction from international fans: actor Anthony Rapp commented “We cast members just found out about this as well, & we share your disappointment & frustration,” and “are all of us saddened that you will have to wait months longer to experience Season 4.”
Continued below– Via ComicBook.com, Netflix has announced that the live-action Avatar: The Last Airbender has added three addtional cast members. Paul Sun-Hyung Lee (The Mandalorian, Kim’s Convenience) has been cast as Uncle Iroh, while Lim Kay Siu (Anna and the King) will play Aang’s mentor Gyatso, and Ken Leung (The Night Shift) has been tapped to play Commander Zhao. They join the previously announced Gordon Cormier as Aang, Kiawentiio as Katara, Ian Ousley as Sokka, Dallas Liu as Zuko, and Daniel Dae Kim as Fire Lord Ozai. Netflix currently does not have a release window or date set for the new Avatar: The Last Airbender series.
– Via Syfy Wire, Matt Fraction appeared on The Ringer-Verse podcast, and confirmed that he was involved in the making of the Hawkeye TV series as a consultant, which included providing input on every script for the show. Hawkeye premieres November 24 on Disney+.
– Via Twitter, The Game Awards announced their list of nominees, and Square Enix’s Guardians of the Galaxy was nominated in several categories, including Best Action/Adventure, Best Narrative, Best Score & Music, and Innovation in Accessibility. The Game Awards will take place on Thursday December 9, 2021.
– Finally, Sony Pictures released the second trailer for Spider-Man: No Way Home, featuring more of Alfred Molina’s Doc Ock, as well as the return of Willem Dafoe’s Green Goblin, Jamie Foxx’s redesigned Electro, Thomas Haden Church as Sandman, and Rhys Ifans’s Lizard. No Way Home releases in theaters on December 17.
