In case you missed it, BOOM! announced “Angel & Spike,” and Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will launch a children’s graphic novel imprint called Etch. We also interviewed Christopher Cantwell and Martin Morazzo, and have exclusive previews of “Quarter Killer” #3, “Fantastic Four: Negative Zone” #1, and “Everything’s Archie” Vol. 2.

— Dynamite announced “Death to the Army of Darkness,” a new comic series based on the cult classic Army of Darkness film. Written by Ryan Parrott and illustrated by Jacob Edgar, with colorist Kike J. Diaz and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, it explores a scenario in which a bad translation of the Necronomicon splits hero Ash Williams into multiple versions of himself, including his feminine side (Ashley Williams), erratic Lil’ Ash, Doggie Ash (Dash), cynical and morose Skeleton Ash, and Chainy the sentient chainsaw. The first issue is set to debut in February 2020.

— IDW is launching a new initiative focused on publishing Spanish-language editions of select titles, beginning with George Takei’s “They Called Us Enemy” in June 2020. IDW will also publish Spanish-language editions of “Sonic the Hedgehog” by Ian Flynn and illustrated by Tracy Yardley, Adam Bryce Thomas, Jenneifer Hernandez, and Evan Stanley, as well as “Red Panda & Moon Bear” by writer/artist Jarod Roselló.

— After some confusion over conflicting reports regarding a Joker sequel, director Todd Phillips is setting the record straight. In an interview with IndieWire, Phillips stated that the October 7 meeting where he supposedly pitched the sequel never took place, and that there are no contracts, nor is a script in development for a second Joker film. However, he was also quick to point out that that doesn’t mean a Joker sequel won’t eventually happen, just that the report from The Hollywood Reporter was “anticipatory at best.”

Stargirl will air on The CW in addition to the DC Universe streaming platform, according to a report by Deadline. Episodes will be broadcast in primetime on the network the day after premiering on DC Universe. Whether or not this signifies a larger change in the DC Universe business model remains to be seen.

— Meanwhile, in an interview with Screen Rant, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stated the Black Adam movie will introduce the movie version of the Justice Society of America. “JSA. We will introduce you to that, the world to JSA,” he said. The Justice League’s predecessor in the comics, the Justice Society includes characters like Stargirl, Flash/Jay Garrick, Green Lantern/Alan Scott, and more wartime superheroes.

— In further DC news, according to Entertainment Weekly, actress Efrat Dor (Mayans M.C.) has been cast as Eva McCulloch in the second half of The Flash season 6. A quantum engineer, Eva is better known in the comics as Evan McCulloch, aka the supervillain Mirror Master.

— Finally, mxmtoon is bringing the songs of her debut album to life with a 40-page graphic novel titled “the adventures of mxmtoon: the masquerade” and an animated short film. The singer-songwriter worked with illustrator Ellie Black to refine and recreate sketches she had previously drawn for each song on the album.
