– Tim Seeley and Ilias Kyriazis have a new graphic novel coming from Humanoids. “Chronophage” finds a single mother named Chloe striking up a passionate relationship with a mysterious man who “literally consumes past moments of her life, changing her history and forcing her to decide what should — or shouldn’t — be undone.” Seeley revealed on Twitter that the project came together during the COVID-19 quarantines, describing it as “a really personal horror story.” “Chronophage” eats its way into fans’ hearts in February 2022.

– Red 5 Comics has announced their new three-issue series “Fictionauts.” The story follows a group of adventurers who dip in and out of classic stories, “protecting them against metatextual villainy.” When someone begins attacking the greatest stories, the Fictionauts enter the fray, causing the villains to turn their attacks towards the team themselves. The series comes from writer Mauro Mantella and artist Leandro Rizzo. “Fictionauts” #1 debuts February 2022.

– Image Comics has announced a special one-shot looking back at the company’s history in honor of their 30th anniversary. “The Official Image Timeline,” assembled by Image archivist and co-founder Jim Valentino, details the company’s history “warts and all,” and assembles rarely seen covers, photos, milestones, and behind-the-scenes events. The 64-page issue will also feature an introduction by current Image Comics publisher Eric Stephenson. “The Official Image Timeline” hits shelves on February 2, 2022.

The Beat has the news that Random House Graphic publishing director Gina Gagliano is departing the company. Gagliano previously spearheaded the imprint responsible for a number of award-winning and acclaimed graphic novels, including “The Magic Fish” by Trung Le Nguyen, “Stepping Stones” by Lucy Knisley, and “The Witches of Brooklyn” by Sophie Escabasse. Random House Graphic will continue to run under Random House Children’s Books EVP and deputy publisher Judith Haut. Gagliano’s next steps have not been announced, and she departs the imprint on December 3.

– The organizers of Free Comic Book Day have confirmed on Twitter that the annual event will return to its usual date on the first Saturday in May. The promotional event, which is coordinated by Diamond Comics Distributors, moved from its typical date in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That year the event morphed into “Free Comic Book Summer,” with some of the previously planned free comics releasing between July and September. 2021’s Free Comic Book Day moved to August 14 to give time for the necessary preparations for the event, but 2022’s event is back on schedule. Free Comic Book Day 2022 will be held on Saturday, May 7.

– The HBO Max pilot Dead Boy Detectives, based on the characters created by Neil Gaiman, Matt Wagner, and Malcolm Jones III in the pages of “The Sandman,” has found its main cast. Via Variety, Jayden Revri (The Lodge), Kassius Nelson (Last Night in Soho), and George Rexstrew, a recent graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, will lead the project. Rexstrew and Revri will play the titular spectral investigators, while Nelson will play Crystal Palace, a psychic medium. The cast is rounded out by Alexander Calvert, Briana Cuoco, Jenn Lyon, Yuyu Kitamura, and Ruth Connell reprising her role as Night Nurse from the HBO Max series Doom Patrol. Steve Yockey is writing and executive producing the pilot, with Doom Patrol showrunner Jeremy Carver also serving as executive producer. The pilot is currently in production.

– Robert Patino, showrunner of the upcoming HBO Max comics adaptation DMZ, is moving his overall deal from Warner Bros. to Netflix. Via Deadline, his new multi-year deal will kick off with him developing an adaptation of Image Comics’ “Nocterra,” by Scott Snyder and Tony S. Daniel. The Netflix adaptation of “Nocterra,” which follows a “Ferryman” who shuttles people and goods across a world covered by a lasting darkness that turns people into monsters, was revealed by Snyder on Twitter back in September. Patino will act as showrunner for the series, which will be produced with James Wan’s production company Atomic Monster.

– Finally, John Krasinski has revealed through his Twitter that he will be in the cast of the upcoming animated film DC League of Super Pets. Krasinski will voice Superman for the project, with The Rock set to play his best friend and partner Krypto the Super Dog. The pair will be joined by Kevin Hart, Diego Luna, Natasha Lyonne, Vanessa Bayer, Marc Maron, Kate McKinnon, Keanu Reeves, and Jameela Jamil. Screenwriter Jared Stern (The LEGO Batman Movie, Green Eggs and Ham) will make his directorial debut on the film, which soars into theaters on May 20, 2022.
