– Last night saw the release of the first trailer of the next instalment in Michael Bay’s Transformers oeuvre, Transformers: The Last Knight. This is trailer is, honestly, nigh incomprehensible, even for Transformers which is known for meandering, overly long plots in what should be family movies. With no clear indication of villain outside of brief glimpses of some kind of transforming planet and the last minute reveal that Optimus Prime might be a bad guy for bit (which makes sense given the films’ pretence for having him be a stone cold murderer), this feels like Bay’s failed attempt at a darker, more mature film. Even though it’s literally about transforming robot toys from the 80s. Whatever.

– FX has set a premiere date for Legion, their upcoming X-Men TV show, alongside a new trailer. The show will premiere on February 8, 2017. I would talk about the trailer, but it seems like the good people over at FX don’t want anyone outside of America to get excited about their show. Good work, guys.

– Arune Singh, former publicist for Marvel and then Syfy, has returned to comics to join BOOM! Studios as Vice President of Marketing. This is a great move for BOOM! as Signh is one of the best in the game and I think this is a move that will firmly place them in the big leagues of comics publishers.

– Stacked Deck Press have announced an anthology that they describe as being “100 percent conceived and executed by trans artists.” They are currently looking for submissions from trans and non-binary cartoonists and more details are through that link. This seems worth checking out.

– Ever the spoiler of secrets, Vin Diesel is on the warpath after the release of the GOTG Vol. 2 trailer, promising not only a Groot vs. Hulk fight in Avengers: Infinity War, but the fact that James Gunn is pursuing a solo film about Rocket Raccoon and Groot. I have no idea if that would even work and I feel like that would be way more experimental than Disney is comfortable with, but does sound interesting. Keep an eye out for more information on this.

Alice W. Castle

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well. Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
