In case you missed it, Millarworld is launching “Sharkey the Bounty Hunter” in February, ahead of an upcoming Netflix film.

Stephen Hillenburg in 2015

– SpongeBob SquarePants creator Stephen Hillenburg passed away at the age of 57, according to Nickelodeon and other sources. While SpongeBob is of course most famous for his TV and movie appearances, you might be surprised to learn the lovable yellow sponge has origins in comics. We wish Hillenburg’s friends, family, and loved ones our condolences.

– Skybound Entertainment head honcho Robert Kirkman is teaming with Entertainment One to create a new TV show titled 5 Year. The five-season series will chronicle the Earth’s reactions, year-by-year, as a fatal meteor approaches the planet from outer space. And apparently, different versions of the show will be produced for different countries. Deadline has more on the deal and show.

– In other Skybound news, the company brought a couple new executives on yesterday. Deadline reports that Candisse Williamson will join Skybound as SVP, Business and Legal Affairs, and Joey Stern will serve as the Brand Manager of Skybound Insiders, the company’s exclusive online community.

– To celebrate its impending Steam debut, the DotA digital card game, Artifact, launched an official prequel comic. The comic is the first of many story items that will be released alongside the card game, including another comic set to release with Artifact’s launch. To read the Artifact prequel, click here.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse hasn’t even released yet, but Sony’s already eyeing up sequels and spin-offs. Or at least, that’s the word from The Hollywood Reporter, which says that both a sequel and a “Spider-Women” project are in the works.

– Netflix is bringing a couple more manga to the small screen as original anime adaptations. Deadline’s got the lowdown on new Ultraman and Saint Seiya: Knights of the Zodiac series (as well as others) that will debut on the streaming platform in 2019.

– Netflix also announced it has picked up the live-action Cowboy Bebop series in development at Tomorrow Studios with writer Chris Yost (Wolverine and the X-Men, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes).

Young Justice: Outsiders dropped a lengthy new trailer, in advance of the show’s upcoming DC Universe release. ComicBook.com has the trailer, in case you can’t wait for season three’s January 4 premiere.
