Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.
– The Red Band trailer for Wilson, the Woody Harrelson-starring adaptation of Dan Clowes’ graphic novel, was released yesterday. While it appears to share a lot of the book’s DNA, the book is a collection of – sometimes unrelated – vignettes, whereas here, there appears to be a much more linear, narrative story.
– As announced yesterday, the Wonder Woman trailer also debuted.
– Rob Liefeld’s “Avengelyne,” a book that I don’t think any of us had in our ‘getting optioned for a film in 2016’ pool, was reportedly snatched up by Akiva Goldsman and Paramount Pictures. Goldsman is on board to produce and ‘may’ also direct the film.
– A movie that won’t see the light of day when it was supposed to is The Flash, which appears to be delayed after it recently lost its second director over the infamous ‘creative differences.’ The delay can’t be unexpected, but is still a major setback for a studio/line of films that is trying to find its identity outside of critical piss-taking.
– But it is not all bad news for DC on the live-action front, as their TV properties generate approximately ONE BILLION DOLLARS in revenue a year.
– And DC might have to add another show to its lineup, as the screenwriter of Sandman, Eric Heisserer, left the film and stated that it ‘needed’ to be a TV show. I can’t say I disagree, Eric.
– The Cartoon Art Museum in San Francisco announced a new, permanent home, after closing its doors for relocation a year ago. This is good news for everyone.
– Keith Giffen loved writing the “Sugar and Spike” story in “Legends of Tomorrow” so much, he brought the characters into his “Blue Beetle” series, seemingly to join the rest of the cast in hating life and quibbling over nothing all the time.
– In a rare move of solidarity, Junkie XL has left Deadpool 2 in support of Tim Miller. I can’t remember one note of music from Deadpool, but I guess this is a loss?
– “We Have No Idea: A Guide to the Universe” is a collaboration between Jorge Cham and Daniel Whiteson that attempts to talk about some of the big ideas of the universe. Whiteson is a physicist, so the science in the book has some credibility.
– The Dark Tower is pushed back to next summer, instead of February. I’m sure this is bad news for a lot of people, but as I wanted to finish reading the series before the film came out, I have some more breathing room now.
– And, finally, in some sad news, the FBI is now offering a $10,000 reward for any information on missing comics artist Norman Lee, who went missing while on vacation with his wife in 2015. We wish the Lee family some closure and peace through this terribly difficult time.
