– Kicking off, Jeff Lemire announced a new addition to his and Dean Ormston’s “Black Hammer” universe at Dark Horse called “Doctor Star & The Kingdom of the Lost Tomorrows.” The series will run four issues, teaming Lemire and artist Max Fiumara. It follows the hero, Doctor Star, in the Golden Age and the present age as he rekindles his relationship with his son. “Black Hammer” is being relaunched in April 2018 with “Black Hammer: Age of Doom” after its first thirteen issues, and is wrapping up the first four-issue spinoff “Sherlock Frankenstein and the Legion of Evil” in January. Look for this new miniseries in March 2018.

– Following the lackluster performance of Justice League, Warner Bros. is doing some shakeup of the DC Films division, involving further integration of the department into their main production line. To start, they are moving Jon Berg, the head of the film division, to serve as a production partner elsewhere. The search is on for someone to replace Berg, but DC CCO Geoff Johns, who had production credit with Berg on Justice League, is not being considered. Warner Bros. is projected to take a loss on the film and is looking to restructure the division as they go forward.

– Also part of that report is the continued idea Ben Affleck will soon no longer be Batman. He will allegedly star in the Flashpoint movie and is unlikely to appear in Matt Reeves’s standalone Batman film. With the rumor of Affleck’s leaving, it appears that Mad Men actor Jon Hamm is gunning for the role of Bruce Wayne. Other actors rumored for the role include Jake Gyllenhaal.

– In more movie news, the first details and stills for next year’s X-Men: Dark Phoenix were released today by Entertainment Weekly. The film is going to be set in 1992 and features a cockier Charles Xavier and a more accomplished X-Men team. The film is based on Chris Claremont’s “Dark Phoenix” storyline and is directed by longtime X-Men writer and producer Simon Kinberg. Dark Phoenix drops November 2, 2018.

– Not to be outdone, DC revealed the first stills for the upcoming Aquaman film today showcasing an revealing an angrier, muscley-er version of Jason Mamoa’s Arthur Curry. Director James Wan stated the movie will differ from Justice League saying, “It’s a much more a traditional action-adventure quest movie,” which will follow Arthur from childhood to being crowned King of Atlantis. Aquaman comes out December 21, 2018.

– Archie Comics is adding to its horror line. The new series “Vampironica,” written by brother/sister team Greg and Megan Smallwood with art by Greg. The aptly named series follows Riverdale native Veronica Lodge, who is bitten by a vampire and then is forced to feast on her community to satisfy her bloodlust. The duo cite inspirations like American Werewolf in London and Fright Night as the tone of their series. Look for the new horror title to premiere in March.

– Cartoonist Rich Tommaso is launches another new title at Image, titled “Dry Country.” It will premiere in March. His other series, “Spy Seal,” will be on hiatus until the fall of 2018. The new series is a coming of age story following Gen-Xer Lou Rossi playing amateur detective when the love of his life, Janet, goes missing. You can find some preview art here.

– Aftershock is launching a new series from Sean Lewis and Steve Uy called “Betrothed” in March described as “Saga” meets “Archie.” The series follows two seniors in high school who are also orphans who realize, when they turn 18, that they’re leading warring armies in an alternate dimension. – More details for the upcoming February “Black Panther Annual” #1 were revealed today by Marvel in an interview with three of the issues writers. Don McGregor, Christopher Priest, and Reginald Hudlin all return to the character that they helped to define. McGregor teaming with artist Daniel Acuña to takes T’Challa to the streets of New York, Priest with Mike Perkins for a story starring Everett Ross, and Hudlin reuniting with Ken Lashley for a sequel to their acclaimed “Black to the Future!” You can find a full interview with these acclaimed writers here.

– Oni Press announced today a new all-ages graphic novel called “Pizzasaurus Rex,” written and illustrated by Justin Wagner (storyboard artist on Archer). The OGN follows scientist Jeremy Duderman who invents the Reality Alternative Dimensionator, which summons pizza-loving party animal Rex Raditude to Earth. Look for the graphic novel on July 25, 2018.

– Richard Starkings and Axel Medellin’s long running Image title “Elephantman” is ending soon with issue #80, but the finale has been pushed three weeks from December 20th to January 12th. The two previous issues also experienced some days. You now have more time to say goodbye.

– The manga “Berserk” is returning from its hiatus, publishing its comeback chapter on December 22. The manga tells the story of Guts a warrior known for his big sword who fights demons in his medieval-esque world. The series has gone on hiatus before and has had multiple anime adaptations, one in 1997, and a makeover in 2016.
