– With a 40th anniversary and a Netflix series on the horizon, Dark Horse has announced a new omnibus of Matt Wagner’s “Grendel.” The first volume, titled “Grendel Omnibus Volume 1: Hunter Rose,” will feature a new cover by Wagner, colored by his son Brennan. The collection includes the earliest appearances of the villain, including ‘Devil by the Dead’ and the “Behold the Devil and Black” short stories. It also features work from creators as varied as Mike Allred, Jill Thompson, and Stan Sakai. “Volume 1” is available for preorder now. It will be released to comic shops on June 8, 2022, and in bookstores on June 21.

– The season two trailer for Superman & Lois dropped this Tuesday. The new season of the CW hit will find both the Clark and Irons families dealing with their own struggles, as Clark is struck with a mysterious illness. Superman actor Tyler Hoechlin is also reunited with former Teen Wolf co-star Ian Bohen, who portrays Lt. Mitch Anderson in the series. The trailer can be viewed on YouTube.

– “Superman: Son of Kal-El” and “Dark Knights of Steel” writer Tom Taylor announced on Twitter that he has signed an exclusive contact with DC. “I can’t wait to share everything we have planned for the future (you’ll see),” he teases.

Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’s Stephanie March has been cast as alien-in-hiding Akira in Ava DuVernay and Jill Blankenship’s Naomi. Adapted from the DC series of the same name, the show will join the rest of the publisher’s CW lineup. She joins a cast that includes Alexander Wraith, Cranston Johnson, Claire Lanay and Camila Moreno.

– Declan Shalvey announced on Twitter that submissions are now open for the 2021 Creators For Creators grant. Creators for Creators has detailed submission information on their website, along with a Google form for submitters to fill out. The grant is for $30,000. The submission period lasts from December 2021 to March 31, 2022.

– “Wizard Beach” and “Jim Henson’s The Storyteller” artist Conor Nolan tweeted that several pieces of his work have been stolen and turned into NFTs. “The market leeches from unwilling talent, and yet touts itself as empowering artists,” he posts about the incident. “Both of these things cannot exist simultaneously.”

– Disney+’s The Acolyte may have its title character. Amandla Stenberg has been optioned to be part of the new live-action Star Wars series, helmed by Leslye Headland. While few details have been confirmed about the series, it will take place at the end of the High Republic era of the franchise, putting it around fifty years before Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Stenberg’s breakout role was in 2012’s Hunger Games, but they have since appeared in Dear Evan Hansen and The Hate U Give; they are also the co-creator of the Stranger Comics series “Niobe.”

Entertainment Weekly has published the full list of the 2021 People’s Choice Award winners. Marvel came out strong with Loki, Shang-Chi, and Black Widow walking away with two awards each. Lucifer walked away with the The Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show of 2021 Award. The Hollywood Reporter also shared the winners of this year’s AFI Film and TV Awards, which saw WandaVision honored alongside Ted Lasso and Reservation Dogs.

– Finally, Wattpad Webtoon Studios is partnering with ViacomCBS to develop original content for the TV conglomerate’s networks and platforms, including streaming service Paramount+. Wattpad and Webtoon merged last June, with Webtoon’s South Korea-based owner Naver purchasing the online fiction platform and merging its TV, movie, and book division with their existing webcomic studios. Wattpad Webtoons president Aron Levitz said of the partnership, “Between our massive global IP catalogue with built-in fandoms, and a roster of superstar comic artists and indie authors, we’re fueling a new era of data-backed entertainment.”
