– From the “no shit” department – just in time for Captain America: Civil War, Steve Rogers is returning to the title of Captain America in a new comic, “Captain America: Steve Rogers” from Nick Spencer and Jesus Saiz. The book will feature Sharon Carter in a supporting role, and will focus on Steve fighting the returning HYDRA, while Sam Wilson will still keep the Cap name and shield (Steve’s got a new one) in his own book, which Spencer will continue to write as well.

– July 7, 2017: that’s the new release date of Marvel’s upcoming Spider-Man film. The new date (it was supposed to debut two weeks later) is part of a large release date shake up that was necessitated by Star Wars: Episode VIII being delayed to December 15, 2017. Also affected are the Jumanji reboot, and the now-off-the-schedule new Terminator sequel.

– Aftershock Comics continues to bolster its lineup of creators with a new co-written Mark Waid/Tom Peyer book called “Captain Kid.” The premise, according to the press release, is “the story of a middle-aged comics fan who transforms into a teen super-hero. If it happened to you, would you ever change back?” There’s no artist announced just yet, but Aftershock did also announce their arrival on comiXology as well yesterday.

– The two DC Free Comic Book Day comics have been announced, with one targeted at younger readers, and one targeted at prospective Suicide Squad movie viewers. A reprint of the New 52 “Suicide Squad” #1 joins a sneak peak of the “DC Superhero Girls: Final Crisis” graphic novel by Shea Fontana and Yancey Laba that will debut later this year.

– Stephen Amell tweeted out the first image of Megalyn Echikunwoke as Vixen on Arrow, where she’ll debut later this year. She will also continue to voice the character on the CW Seed’s Vixen, which was recently renewed for a second season.

– For those clamoring for a deep backstory to the upcoming Kevin Smith film Yoga Hosers, rejoice! Dynamite is publishing a prequel comic written by Smith and illustrated by Jeff Quigley. Dynamite will also be publishing a new “Xena: Warrior Princess” comic from Genevive Valentine and Ariel Medel.

– Martin Donovan, no stranger to superhero properties, has joined Legends of Tomorrow as one of the Time Lords. This show just keeps getting more and more DC and I love it before seeing a second of it.

– Titan is publishing a new “The Adventures of Puss in Boots” series, featuring the character from the Shrek films. While this book is certainly not for me, more all-ages comics are great for the industry at large.

– “Klaus,” the Grant Morrison/Dan More Santa Claus retelling, is getting an oversized reprint from IDW as part of their “Pen and Ink” series.

– CB Cebuski is moving to China to further his role at Marvel/Disney’s Asian interests. Good luck, CB!

– And, finally, Danny Trejo has begun campaigning to play Lobo on film. Why do celebrities like Lobo far more than comic readers do?
