In case you missed it, Marvel announced a “Captain Carter” miniseries by Jamie McKelvie and Marika Cresta, while DC announced “Naomi Season Two.”

Anne Rice

– Bestselling horror author Anne Rice died on Saturday, December 11, following complications from a stroke. She was 80 years old. Her books included The Vampire Chronicles (starring the vampire Lestat de Lioncourt), its sister series Lives of the Mayfair Witches, Ramses the Damned, Servant of the Bones, and The Wolf Gift, as well as historical novels like The Feast of All Saints and Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt, all of which have been adapted into comics, manga, film, TV shows, or for the stage. She is survived by her son, author Christopher Rice, who co-wrote her next novel, 2022’s Ramses the Damned: The Reign of Osiris.

– Legendary Comics announced “Three Little Wishes,” a fantasy rom com by writer Paul Cornell, artist Steven Yeowell, colorist Pippa Bowland, and letterer Simon Bowland. The graphic novel tells the story of Kelly Castleton, a contract lawyer who is granted three wishes after releasing the fairy king Oberon from a bottle; unfortunately, her attempts to bring about world peace (and win back her ex), end up going completely awry. The book will be published on July 12, 2022, and you can read the full press release at Cornell’s website.

– Marvel announced three titles for next year’s Free Comic Book Day: “Avengers/X-Men,” “Spider-Man/Venom,” and “Marvel’s Voices.” The “Avengers/X-Men” issue will feature stories by Kieron Gillen and Gerry Duggan, and artists Dustin Weaver and Matteo Lolli, that “will lay the groundwork for an event that will erupt across the Marvel Universe in 2022.”

The “Spider-Man/Venom” comic will set the stage for the next era of Spidey, and include a Venom story from the current creative team of Al Ewing, Ram V, and Bryan Hitch. The “Marvel’s Voices” edition is described as “a unique introduction” to the series, which periodically spotlights certain characters and creators from diverse communities. These will all be released when Free Comic Book Day is held on May 7, 2022.

– Per The Hollywood Reporter, Skybound are in negotiations to acquire the “Transformers” and “G.I. Joe” comic book licenses from Hasbro. IDW Publishing have owned the license for both properties respectively since 2005 and 2008, but the Reporter claims Hasbro has become unhappy with the company’s recent output. If the deal goes forward, Skybound is expected to begin publishing new “Transformers” and “Joe” comics in 2023, in time for the 40th anniversary of the G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero cartoon.

– IDW, meanwhile, shared they will publish “Psychic Investigators, Evil Exterminators,” a middle-grade graphic novel by K.T. Healey about a group of a classmates who start investigating the paranormal. The book will be published in Spring 2024, and you can look at early artwork and character designs on Healey’s website.

– In further IDW news, Apple TV+ has ordered a ten-part series based on Kim Dwinell’s “Surfside Girls” (published by the Top Shelf Productions imprint.) The show will star Miya Cech (The Astronauts) and YaYa Gosselin (We Can Be Heroes) as Jade and Sam, two girls who befriend a pirate ghost during their summer holiday. The Astronauts writer and producer May Chan will serve as showrunner on the series, which will join Apple’s children’s line-up at an unspecified date.

– The Wrap reports Mika Abdalla (Project Mc²) has joined The Flash TV series as Tinya Wazzo, a meta-teenager who becomes the subject of an investigation by Iris West-Allen. In the comics, Tinya is a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes known as Apparition, who has the power to phase through objects. The Flash season 8 is expected to resume after the fifth and final episode of “Armageddon” (which airs tomorrow night) on March 9, 2022.

– In MCU news, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was honored at the Unforgettable Gala, the Character Media company’s annual celebration of Asian and Pacific Islander arts, entertainment and culture. The film won the Vanguard Award, Best Director for Destin Daniel Cretton, and Breakout Actor/Actress on Film for Simu Liu. Marvel also announced Eternals will be added to Disney+ on January 12.

– Finally, the Norwegian pregnancy comedy Ninjababy, based on the graphic novel “Fallteknikk (Fall Technique),” won Best Comedy at the 2021 European Film Awards, beating out France’s The Morning After, and Spain’s The People Upstairs.
