– Venom co-creator David Michelinie is returning to the character with artist Ivan Fiorelli on the retrospective five-issue miniseries “Venom: Lethal Protector” this March. The series takes Eddie Brock back to his classical crime-fighting roots, with few other story details given. “Getting to do a multi-issue story with the original Venom was like sitting down to dinner with an old friend — who wants to eat your brain for dessert!” Michelinie said. “It was both fun and exciting, and I hope people enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.” Fiorelli has previously worked on “Marauders,” “The Amazing Spider-Man” and the webcomic “Ego – Obsessed.” The comic is in the same vein as Peter David and German Garcia’s ‘Maestro’ saga, the anthology “X-Men Legends,” and the retrospective “Silver Surfer: Rebirth,” taking characters back to their earlier incarnations to flesh out prior continuity. “Venom: Lethal Protector” #1 releases March 2022 with a cover by Paulo Siqueira.

– Dark Horse have announced that their latest Critical Role hardcover OGN will be “Critical Role: The Mighty Nein Origins – Fjord Stone,” detailing the origins of the half-orc hero played by Travis Willingham. The comic is written by Kevin Burke and Chris “Doc” Wyatt, who have experience in animation, namely the upcoming Legends of Vox Machina animated series, in consulation with Willingham and dungeon master Matthew Mercer, and art by Selina Espiritu, colorist Diana Sousa, and letterer Ariana Maher. “Growing up in an orphanage on the Menagerie Coast, Fjord Stone has never been comfortable with the assumptions people draw from his half-orc heritage,” reads the Dark Horse press release. “His sweet, sensitive nature will do him no favors in Port Damali. Luckily, a chance meeting lands Fjord with a job, a mentor, and more adventure than he could ever dream of on the path that will eventually lead him to the rest of the Mighty Nein!” The fifth comic in the “Might Nein Origins” series releases July 13, 2022 for US$17.99.

– DC Comics are waging war across the Multiverse this March with the new crossover ‘War For Earth-3,’ unfolding in the pages of “Suicide Squad,” “Flash” and “Teen Titans Academy.” The event, spanning the three titles and two eponymous bookend issues, is written by Robbie Thompson and Dennis Hopeless, with art by Steve Pugh. The story centers around the Crime Syndicate’s mission to capture and kill Amanda Waller, while the Flash, Teen Titans and Suicide Squad all collide on Earth-3 with various, intertwining goals. The group must confront both the horrors of the dystopic Earth-3, and Amanda Waller’s machinations. The series features a series of connecting covers by Rafa Sandoval as well as variants by Gleb Melnikov, Liam Sharp, and more. The five-issue crossover will run from March 1 to March 29 in 2022.

– Charles Soule and Ryan Browne revealed an upcoming eight-issue Image miniseries called “Eight Billion Genies” at C2E2 this week. Set in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, “Eight Billion Genies” imagines a world where everyone gains a personal genie: the first issue will cover the first 8 seconds after the genies’ arrival, the second the first 8 hours, then 8 days, with that trend continuing for the whole eight issues. They also detailed their experience in releasing a preview version of the first issue at C2E2, the choice to publish through Image rather than Kickstarter, their respective career journeys and more; you can read the panel summary here.

– Henry Barajas, the co-writer and co-creator of the Mesoamerican fantasy series “Helm Greycastle” has teased his plans for further entries in the series on Twitter. “I have a plan for a prequel and sequel for the Latinx fantasy ‘Helm Greycastle’ series and I even want to write a mini-campaign,” said Barajas. “If you want more, please let TopCow know.” The series is heavily influenced by tabletop RPGs and even has additional material included with the book to use the setting in D&D’s fifth edition. “Helm Greycastle” is written by Henry Barajas with art by Bryan Valenza and Rahmat Handoko.

– The Golden Globes have announced their 2022 film and television nominees, with WandaVision garnering two nominations. Elizabeth Olsen was nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture Made for Television, while Paul Bettany was nominated for the matching Best Actor award. Overall Netflix is leading the awards with 17 nominations, while HBO follows at 15, and Apple+ is arguably the rising star for the heavy recognition given to shows like The Morning Show and Ted Lasso.

– Amazon Music will be creating a sequel to the comic strip-inspired musical Annie, in the form of the scripted podcast Tomorrow, featuring Alan Ruck, Lance Reddick, Laura Benanti and Abbie-Grace Levi as the older Annie. The podcast will release weekly for a year, and details Annie’s life in New York City after being adopted by the Warbucks as she and her friends try to solve a mystery that threatens her new life, with her nemesis Agatha Hannigan wrapped up in it all following her release from prison. The series will release on Amazon Music and ad-free on the subscription podcast service Wondery. The first episode is already available now.

Marry Me, the musically-infused romantic comedy based on the webcomic by Bobby Crosby and Remy “Eisu” Mokhtar, will officially hit theaters and streaming on Peacock at the same time on the Valentine’s Day weekend of February 11 to 13. The film stars Jennifer Lopez as popstar Kat Valdez, who leaves her fellow musician and fiancee for a fan at a concert with a “marry me” sign. The film follows Valdez and her romance with everyman Charlie Gilbert, played by Owen Wilson. The film, directed by Kat Coiro, will open against Death on the Nile, Black Light, and competing romance movie What About Love.

– Finally, Batwoman writers Natalie Abrams, James Stoteraux, and Chad Fiveash are reportedly developing a Gotham Knights TV show for the CW set in the wake of Bruce Wayne’s death. The series isn’t connected to either Batwoman or the upcoming Gotham Knights video game from WB Games Montreal. The story follows the “rebellious adopted son” of Batman as he meets the children of each of Batman’s famous villains, helping them escape the murder they have been framed for. It’s unconfirmed if this son of Batman will be a Robin we’ve seen previously. Stoteraux and Fiveash will executive produce alongside Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden of Berlanti Productions for WB TV. The series has no public production schedule or casting as of yet.
