– Diamond Comics Distribution announced the first round of titles for FCBD 2018 (Free Comic Book Day) 2018 on YouTube. With the exception of DC’s secret title and Avengers/Captain America book, the announcement video includes the various titles and creative teams for Archie, Boom!, Dark Horse, First Second, IDW, Image Comics, Joe Books, and Oni Press. The remainder of the FCBD books will be announced nest week of Tuesday around 11am EST.

– Marvel will be releasing the comic “Iron Man: Hong Kong Heroes”, originally available only in China, in the US March of next year. The book, conceived as a tie in to the Hong Kong Disneyland Iron Man Experience attraction, blends science and magic in a story involving Baron Mordo and Arnim Zola. It was convinced and created by Hong Kong comic writer, Howard Wong and artist Justice Wong.

– DC Comics is planning a pop-culture media event called “DC in D.C.” coinciding with the Martin Luther King Jr. day weekend January 12th and 13th next year. The event will host guests from various DCTV projects, writers and artists from DC Comics, invited guests from politics, government service, and academia all coming together to illuminate the story of America and current issues through the lens of comics and superheroes. Premiering at the event will be the TV series Black Lightning and the animated feature Batman: Gotham by Gaslight

– Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips’s “Kill or be Killed” is slated to be adapted into a film by director Chad Stahelski and producer Basil Iwanyk, the people behind the high impact action movie John Wick. “Kill or be Killed” follows the story of a depressive college student who attempted suicide, survived and them was visited by a demon who convinces him to stay alive he needs to kill a person every month.

– Grant Morrison, in a conversation on Late Night with Seth Meyers, revealed fears of the Atomic Bomb lead him to comics and superheroes. These comments kind of parallel the introduction to his book Supergods, where he looked in-depth at the superhero mythologies that grew up in the wake of WWII, the threat of mass destruction, and the Holocaust.

– Next January, the LINE WebToon office in Los Angeles will be starting a paid internship for college students in the area interested in working on the editorial end of comics. The interns would work closely with the WebToon content team and learn how to evaluate pitches, the ins and outs of editing, and how to work with creators to bring content through to publication.

-Next week Bungie will debut a free web comic series based on the Destiny video game franchise on its company website. The story “Destiny: Fall of Osiris” will tell the origin of the characters Osiris and Ikora from the game written by Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris’s Christine Thompson with help from Ryan North and art by Zé Carlos.
