– Across their careers, Michael and Laura Allred have dropped images and appearances of rock idols into their stories, but none as frequent as David Bowie. Over the weekend, writer Steve Horton revealed he is writing a David Bowie OGN with the Allreds, titled, “Bowie: Stardust, Rayguns, & Moonage Daydreams.”

– IDW announced that next May they will be printing another of Swedish cartoonist, Zep’s, works in English, following up on this year’s English edition of “A Story of Men.” The upcoming volume, “A Strange and Beautiful Sound”, follows a man who chose a life of silence as a monk but is forced to leave it, head to Paris, and end up questioning the choices he has led for a quarter century.

-Pat Shand, former Zenoscope writer, and Renzo Rodriguez, his occasional artist collaborator at Zenoscope, next year will have a creator owned book published by Black Mask Comics. Elevator pitched as “Buffy the Vampire Slayer if the big bad were big pharma” was inspired by the authors own struggle with asthma and getting coverage from insurance for his lifesaving medication. The story in their book, “Breathless”, will feature monsters and battles but real villain will be mans own greed and his urge to profit through others suffering.

– Two women were promoted to higher positions in the world of comics. Hanna MacDonald, who has been rising through the ranks in the Marvel Glendale offices, has been named publicist in the Global Television & Publicity division of Marvel Entertainment. Over at Dark Horse, Kari Torson has moved up the ranks to be the new Director of International Licensing. She perviously was a manager.

– In movie news, Michelle Williams confirmed she is starring opposite Tom Hardy in the upcoming Venom movie spin-off of the Spider-Man franchise. Williams will be playing the role of (spoiler alert) Anne Weying, who in the Comics was the ex-wife of Eddie Brock and briefly hosted the Venom symbol.

– Over on the small screen, it was announced that Erin Moriarty, who played Hope Scholttman on Jessica Jones and was in the first season of True Detective, has been cast to play Starlight aka Annie in the upcoming show The Boys. Eric Kripke, who was the creative mind behind Supernatural is behind this adaptation of the violent dark comedic superhero comic “The Boys” originally created by Garth Ennis and Derick Robertson.

– This last weekend at Jump Festa, manga convention, in Makuhari Messe, Tokyo, Japan fans who attended the “Boruto” panel got a surprise treat. Several scanned pages of a new manga project by Masashi Kishimoto‘s, creator of “Naruto” and “Boruto,” were shown. The attached images are rough but they do show a couple of his characters.
