– After the writers of “The Unbelievable Gwenpool” and “Generation X” announced that their books were being canceled with the release of the March 2018 solicitations, there’s speculation that Marvel may be canceling several other books that were also absent from solicits. The other missing books are “Captain Marvel,” “America,” “Luke Cage,” and “The Defenders.” “Captain Marvel” is still going according to writer Margaret Stohl, and it’s not clear what Marvel’s plans for “The Defenders are post-Bendis. It could be just delayed due to his recent health issues. There are also a couple books like “Hawkeye” and “Iceman” that have solicit text suggesting an impending end. The endings of those books were later confirmed by writers Kelly Thompson and Sina Grace, respectively. The cancellations follow those of “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Secret Warriors,” “Jean Grey,” and “Royals,” making it a possible total of 11 books being cut, not even six months into Marvel’s ‘Legacy’ initiative.

– IDW had a few series announcements along with their March 2018 solicitations. The next Ghostbusters miniseries will feature every Ghostbuster from all iterations of the franchise. Obviously, the teams from the films will make an appearance, but it will also include characters from the various cartoons and comics. The mini will be written by series regular Erik Burnham, with art by Dan Schoening. “Ghostbusters: Crossing Over” #1 will be released on March 28, 2018. The next series comes from writer Joe R. Lansdale, who is adapting the prequel to Bubba Ho-Tep, his short story that spawned a cult-classic film. “Bubba Ho-Tep and the Cosmic Blood-Suckers” features Elvis as he sets out to save the world from an alien threat at the request of President Nixon. Lansdale will be joined by Joshua Jabcuga to help write it, and Tadd Galusha will draw. The series also arrives in March.

– Thanos creator Jim Starlin has ended his relationship with Marvel comics, including walking away from a planned trilogy of Thanos OGNs. Starlin claims that the current ongoing “Thanos” series got approved for a plot that was “strikingly similar” to what he and Alan Davis were planning for their graphic novels. The first book in the series, “Thanos: The Infinity Series,” is still scheduled to be released in February 2018 at the time of writing.

– “Action Comics” #1000 has been pushed back a month so it can coincide with Superman’s 80th Anniversary. It will be released on April 18, 2018, which is 80 years (to the day) after Superman’s debut in “Action Comics” #1 back in 1938. Along with the anniversary issue, DC will release a companion hardcover book going over the history of the series and characters, edited by Paul Levitz.

– Titan Comics has announced an adaptation of the upcoming Sea of Thieves video game. The all-ages series will be written by Jeremy Whitley and drawn by Rhoald Marcellius. Players in the shared-world adventure game join a crew of pirates to explore and plunder. The game is set to arrive on Xbox One and Windows in early 2018, and the comic will debut in March.

– Dutch political cartoonist Ruben Oppenheimer and Twitter received a Turkish court order to remove a cartoon that Oppenheimer posted on the social media platform. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan found the depiction of him sodomizing the Twitter bird to be offensive and is demanding that it be removed. Neither Twitter or Oppenheimer have complied yet, with Oppenheimer saying that “Christmas came early this year.” Previously, the same cartoon was removed from Facebook for violating their guidelines after Erdogan filed a similar complaint.

– Cartoonist Ali Dorani, aka Eaten Fish, has left the Australian-run immigration detention center on Manus Island for refuge in northern Europe. Dorani had spent the last four years on the island, where he chronicled his life in the refugee camp in cartoons published by The Guardian, the Washington Post, and the ABC.

– The full list of titles that will be available as part of the 2018 Free Comic Book Day has been released. In addition to the 12 “Gold” titles that were previously-announced, there are books from several other publishers for a total of 50 books, with 11 publishers getting two each. FCBD 2018 is on May 5, 2018.

– The Flash is getting a solo movie in the LEGO and Warner Bros. DC Super Heroes line. The film will feature the voices of James Arnold Taylor as The Flash, Kate Micucci as Zatanna, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Doctor Fate along with many others. LEGO DC Super Heroes: The Flash will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on March 13, 2018, and Digital on February 13.

– And lastly on the TV side of things, The Walking Dead actor Cooper Andrews has joined Shazam! as the foster parent at Billy Batson’s group home. And Syfy’s Superman prequel Krypton now has a release target of March 2018. The new release window also comes with an updated synopsis that teases more of the conflicts that main character Sag-El will face.
