Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown of comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.
– James Robinson and ACO are joining forces for a new Nick Fury series, the first to focus on the younger, MCU/Samuel L. Jackson-inspired version, introduced a few years ago. Robinson says that the book will feature a look similar to the psychedelic adventures in the Stan Lee/Jim Steranko issues starring Fury’s father. ACO has proven – especially with his time on “Midnighter,” that he is certainly capable of psychedelia. Look forward to 8 or so issues of this before Marvel loses interest.
– In what can only be described as great news, Geof Darrow has revealed that “Shaolin Cowboy” will return in April, with a miniseries cleverly titled “Who’ll Stop the Rein?” If you’re unfamiliar with Darrow, check out the best interview in the history of our site with him (you can hear me and James Johnston cracking up in the background).
– Everything is coming up Rob Liefeld these days: he’s launching a new “Extreme” anthology, and reviving “Bloodstrike” and “Brigade.” Newsarama also mentions the Youngblood revival, but claims there’s not a creative team. We know better.
– Ooops! One of the New Mutants stars revealed that James McAvoy will return as Professor X in that film.
– Sterling K. Brown, late of The People Vs. OJ Simpson, will be playing N’Jobu in Black Panther. Man, could this cast get any better?
– No one should be surprised that the death of Carrie Fisher is forcing some serious changes to be made to Star Wars: Episode IX, but the team is convening next week to start figuring that out. Fisher’s death is truly a sad event, and a sci-fi franchise should be the least of our concerns, but it will be interesting to see how the Lucasfilm brain trust handles the situation.
– Voltron: Legendary Defender‘s second season has a trailer – if this is your type of thing, it looks pretty great.
– And, finally, James Gunn wants to make a Moon Knight film. Sure, why not?
