Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

– Carol Corps fans sigh! Joss Whedon talked on a podcast with Empire Magazine about a certain scene from the end of Age of Ultron. Apparently, the New Avengers line-up was meant to include a certain Carol Danvers and Spider-Man. Unfortunately, this never came through because Spider-Man got acquired toward the end of production, Marvel Studios hadn’t finalized plans for a Captain Marvel movie, and because of something called “The SJWS.” Not sure what that last bit’s about, but we’re excited for Captain Marvel and We Think We Got Spider-Man Right This Time, Y’all in 2017.
– Speaking of Marvel films, everything’s Martin Freeman has been cast in Captain America: Civil War. We cannot wait for his uncomfortable turn as Wong, in an effort to set up the now not even trying Dr. Strange movie.
– Ah crap, still more MCU stuff. This is what happens the week after a Marvel movie makes hundreds of millions. Everyone in Hollywood wants a piece of the robot murder pie. Tom Hardy had to leave Suicide Squad due to schedule conflicts with The Revenant, but in an interview with Collider he mentioned he’d like to play The Punisher or Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell. Just any white dude with scruff who kills indiscriminately. Man has a type and he’s comfy with it.
– Okay, woof, final MCU news. Deadline is reporting that five directors are in contention to helm the third Spider-Man reboot, fourth if you count the Toei Spider-Man film which I absolutely do. Some of the contenders include Jonathan Levine from Warm Bodies, Jared Hess, the director and writer of Napoleon Dynamite. All the directors on the list could make for a good Spider-Man film but none are going to have giant karate robots so what’s the point?
– Bruce Timm had some words to say about the upcoming Suicide Squad‘s Harley Quinn. Said words actually weren’t too harsh. Along with a fun conversation about trying to convince DC to let Superman bleed for Superman/Doomsday, Timm’s exact words on Margot Robbie as Harley were “So far, so good.” I like to think it has less him being relieved over Harley’s design and more to do with him just wanting to do a review about anything else than Harley.
– AV Club is reporting that Greg Berlanti of Arrow and Flash fame will be heading a new series based on Gerry Duggan and Phil Noto’s “Infinite Horizon”. The comic is a futurist take on The Odyssey and the news caused Matt Fraction to scratch “ODY-C” off his TV adaptation shortlist. He still has twenty titles left.
– Hope you’re looking forward to “Secret Wars” #1 today! We enjoyed it pretty thoroughly so you can expect a review/recap up tomorrow. The issue has the potential to really shock readers with how much of an impact it’s making on the Marvel Universe as we know it. So USA Today spoiled a ton of it on its website yesterday. The one writer at USA Today whose job is to just spoil comic books on a monthly basis is reportedly still very pleased with his career.
