Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.
– The AV Club got an exclusive preview of Gerard Way and Nick Derington’s “Doom Patrol,” which will drop in September from Way’s new ‘Young Animal’ imprint. The preview primarily features a few covers, and the introduction to Casey Brinke, an EMT who will be the reader’s surrogate in the story.
– Steve Orlando and Riley Rossmo have been tasked with the first crossover of the ‘Rebirth’ era, which returns to an idea established in “Batman” #1 – not the Tom King issue from last week, but the one from the ’40s. “The Night of the Monster Men” will run through “Batman,” “Detective Comics,” and “Nightwing” in September and October. That last point is an interesting one, as it is labeled as a six part crossover, yet spanning two months, which doesn’t really jibe with the books double shipping, unless this starts in the second half of September. I guess that’s possible? I don’t know, double shipping is still something I’m getting used to; that said, this looks fantastic.
– So, remember all the ‘Dead No More’ stuff Marvel was teasing a few months back? Well, now we know what that meant: it was all leading to “The Clone Conspiracy.” Dan Slott has a history of taking dumb ideas and making magic out of them, so let’s hope he can make stuff with Spider-Clones not unbearably terrible.
– Kelly Sue DeConnick is one of the writers on the upcoming television series Emerald City, the latest in a series of shows named after an iconic character/story’s location, this time being The Wizard of Oz. Congrats, Kelly Sue!
– Ollie Masters and Ming Doyle put out “The Kitchen” on Vertigo in the not-too-distant past, and now New Line Cinema and Andrea Berloff (screenwriter of Straight Outta Compton) are adapting the book for the silver screen.
– The CW has announced its debut dates for the fall season, with The Flash kicking things off on October 4, with Arrow following one day later, Supergirl dropping on the 10th, and Legends of Tomorrow getting underway on the 13th.
– On Friday, we asked what your favorite recent Dark Horse book was, and the overwhelming majority of you said “Mind MGMT,” garnering 83% of the vote. Wowzers.
– And, finally, the Suicide Squad soundtrack is essentially an audio version of Jared Leto’s Joker tattoos.
