Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.
– There are a bunch of bits of DC TV news to report today, so let’s get right to it: there have been some conflicting stories out there about the possibilities of crossovers between the CW’s DC shows – Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow – and Supergirl, but it appears that CBS is at least open to the possibility down the road. Especially with The Flash dealing with the Multiverse, it seems like Supergirl could remain in its own universe and still crossover at some point.
– Speaking of the CW-verse, it appears that Legends of Tomorrow is the last Arrow spinoff that’ll air on the CW. This makes a certain amount of sense, both in terms of saturation, and since it is an anthology series of sorts, Legends can be a repository for anyone they like, without needing to create a new show for them.
– More details have emerged about the week’s big Arrow news, as Constantine will be playing a role in the resurrection of Sara Lance in the season’s fifth episode, and we now know that Rutina Wesley will be playing Liza Warner, aka Lady Cop.
– Brit Morgan, late of True Blood has joined Supergirl as Livewire, perhaps Bruce Timm’s most famous Superman creation.
– Some set photos have leaked from the set of Captain America: Civil War set, which show the first images of Black Panther in the MCU. The costume is underwhelming in these pictures, but these photos are hardly set up to clearly and accurately show the costume, so don’t panic too much.
– Lexi Alexander has offered to direct a Ms.Captain Marvel film for free. So, Marvel, if you want to save some scratch, give Lexi a call!
– Cullen Bunn, writer of this fall’s “Uncanny X-Men” relaunch, says that he will address Psylocke’s racial identity during his run on the series. If you want to see the worst of comic retconning (and of audience reaction to it), just google Psylocke and watch the insanity roll along.
-Ahead of next week’s DC solicits, a few tidbits have been dropped across, sadly, non-Multiversity news sites: Comics Alliance reports that “Batman: Europa” is finally coming out this November (only 11 years since its original solicitation), as well as the start of “The Dark Knight III: The Master Race” from Frank Miler and co. Meanwhile, over at Comic Book Resources, Max Landis launches his “Superman: American Alien” miniseries with Nick Dragotta, telling the tale of a 12-year old Clark Kent’s new-found floating abilities.
– These new Star Wars: The Force Awakens photos are pretty dope, you guys.
– You know what villain really doesn’t have enough villains? Duh, Batman, of course! That’s the only reason why Gotham would create a new arsonist villain named Joe Pike, and cast The Wire alum Leo Fitzpatrick to play him, right?
– Jonathan Hickman and a gaggle of Marvel’s more comedic creators are bringing us “Secret Wars Too,” a humorous one-shot, this fall.
– Scott Snyder has said that he has one more Joker story in him, but it would have to be an Elseworlds-style story.
– Speaking of the Joker, it appears that Zach Galifianakis is in talks to voice the character in the Lego Batman film. Please, please, please, have him have a beard that is painted over with white grease paint, a la Cesar Romero.
– And finally, what’s the way to ensure that my wife will never play Risk with me? Why, by making a Marvel Cinematic Universe version, of course!
