Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at either david@multiversitycomics.com or brian@multiversitycomics.com.
– We have known that Andy Serkis is playing a role in Avengers: Age of Ultron for some time. At first, his role was quite mysterious, but over time, many clues were put together and the comics intelligentsia more or less figured out that he would be playing Ulysses Klaw. Well, now it is official. Den of Geeks has more about AoU, including the new UK release date.
– On the heels of his announced departure from the “X-Men” books, Marvel has locked up Brian Michael Bendis for an extension to his Marvel exclusivity. The length of the deal (and the financial compensation) were not made public, but I can only imagine that Bendis was paid handsomely and locked up for the foreseeable future. Congrats, Mr. Bendis!
– Our own Walter Richardson has broken some news on Twitter: “The Unwritten” team of Mike Carey and Peter Gross has a new book coming out in France later this year, “Highest House.” A publisher for the US is still TBA. Shortly after this tweet exchange, Gross joined Twitter to share the first look at the project.
– Archie announced a digital roll out of a number of books featuring their Dark Circle characters, as well as a “New Crusaders” one-shot later this year. Issues from Impact Comics, Red Circle Comics, and Archie’s earlier attempts at “New Crusaders” will all be available digitally – many for the first time – later this year.
– A new, live-action Astro-Boy film is in the works, with the film’s producers saying that they see the character “in the same league as Iron Man.”
– The full creative team for the Better Caul Saul tie in digital comic (“Client Development”) has been revealed: show writers Jenn Carroll and Gordon Smith will be joined by artist Steve Ellis on the series, which is online now.
– Another day, another “Secret Wars” tie-in book announced. Today’s is “Secret Wars Journal,” hopefully something as great as “Punisher War Journal,” an anthology series that will tell “short-form tales from across Battleworld.”
– Oh, sweet innocent Ryan Reynolds: always demand a script before singing on to a movie!
– And, finally, this guy is in the early running for dickhead of the year.
