Welcome back to The Rundown, our daily breakdown on comic news stories we missed from the previous day. Have a link to share? Email our team at rundown@multiversitycomics.com.

– So, apparently, DC decided that they weren’t content to just unleash ‘Rebirth’ information at WonderCon. Nope, they were saving some good stuff for Emerald City, too. On the first night of the convention, they announced a new imprint, ‘Young Animal,’ under the direction of Gerard Way. Four books were announced initially, and all are presumed to be monthly, ongoing titles: “Doom Patrol” by Way and Nick Derington, “Shade: The Changing Girl” by Cecil Castellucci and Marley Zarcone, “Cave Carson Has a Cybernetic Eye,” written by Way and Jon Rivera, illustrated by Michael Avon Oeming, and “Mother Panic,” a Gotham-set book written by Way and Jody Houser, with art by Tommy Lee Edwards. Way was a little unsure how/if these books would connect to the greater DCU, but we are super pumped. Look for the line, described as a ‘pop up imprint,’ this Fall.
Oh yeah, and his “Doom Patrol” stars Flex Mentallo. Boom.
– As if that wasn’t enough for hardcore comics folks to geek out over for one night, DC also announced “Kamandi Challenge,” a 12-issue series that pits all-star creative teams together to tell a one issue Kamandi story. And, boy howdy, look at this collection of talent: Dan Abnett & Dale Eaglesham, Peter J. Tomasi & Neal Adams, Amanda Conner & Jimmy Palmiotti, James Tynion IV & Carlos D’Anda, Bill Willingham & Ivan Reis, Steve Orlando & Philip Tan, Marguerite Bennett & Dan Jurgens, Keith Giffen & Steve Rude, Tom King & Kevin Eastman, Greg Pak & Joe Prado, Rob Williams & Walter Simonson, Gail Simone & Ryan Sook and Len Wein & José Luis García-López. No release date has been set, but put aside $2.99 ahead of time.
– Freeform, the network formerly known as ABC Family, has just ordered a Cloak and Dagger series – not a pilot, but a series order. This is an odd network for such a show – they are mostly known for young adult fare such as Pretty Little Liars and Bunheads – and it remains unclear how/if this will tie into the current Marvel Cinematic/TV Unvierse.
– I forgot Lucifer was still on the air, and apparently I’ll be confused at least for a year longer, as the show got picked up for season 2.
– Van Jensen and Ron Salas will be launching “The Six Million Dollar Man” at Dynamite. The team hopes to rebuild him, as they now have the technology.
– Speaking of TV adaptations, Steve Pugh will be the artist on the DC/Hannah Barbera “Flintstones” comic, showing that DC is content having some of its finest talent on these weird, weird books.
– Woah, David Mack is contributing art to Valiant’s “4001 A.D.” event this summer.
– Jeff Lemire and Dean Ormston’s “The Black Hammer” is finally due to see release this July from Dark Horse.
– Speaking of Dark Horse, Cullen Bunn will be writing a new Conan series, “Conan the Slayer” for them later this year. On art will be some rather talented folks (although in, more than likely, limited quantities): Lee Bermejo, Mark Schultz. and Sergio Davila.
– And finally, Kevin Smith found the heart of Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice. You see, it is inside all of us!
